"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." (Matthew 5:17) Fact is, as in all of the Bible some passages are cultural and are about Jewish customs and don't have as much relevance as other passages. So therefore, do not throughtout the Torah or the OT but rather read through and decifer what is cultural and what is more relevant for today.
IMO, that's certainly where they belong. Have you visited there and seen them for yourself? If you have, fine. If not, you need to qualify your statement.
This is why Christ had to come and die for us! No one could live up to the law, the way it was! It was absolutely impossible! Colossians 2 (NIV) 13When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature,[b] God made you[c] alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. 15And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.[d] No one walking this earth is able to save themselves through their actions or nature. None at all! But that's why G-d provided us our ticket to heaven in His Son, Jesus. Romans 3 (NIV) 21But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement,[i] through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— 26he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. So even the people who died before Christ came weren't punished for things like this, as long as they believed G-d's promise that the Messiah would one day come and set them free from these shackles. The original point of the law was to discourage people having children out of wedlock, etc. Thank goodness for that, because that Law is awfully rigid, isn't it?
