Just a question. Are you a donor?
I am. Because I think of it like this:
"IF, because I've died, I could STILL save a life!" I'm ALL OVER that idea!

No, I'm not an organ donor(I'm not opposed to it, but I haven't mailed in the card to register)... I'm a registered (living) bone marrow donor though... Yeah, I'm done

hell yea!!! i donated everything except my corneas. i know it can save someones eyesight and i know ill be dead anyway but i love my eyes so they are being buried with corneas and all. i donated my skin cells instead of my corneas, so they can do skin grafts on burn patients

I Don't. and I don't want to. And I don't want to receive donated organs.

For me it's just wrong. Not the thought of saving somebodies life, of course, but the thought of giving all my organs away in a phase of death that seems to be really important in a spiritual way. Please don't throw stones at me for my oppinion. I just stay out of the system. I don't donate, and I don't receive.

Donating Blood or bone marrow is completely different. I'd donate those. I just can't donate blood, since my blood pressure is so low, that I can't fill one of those sacks at once, and they just take full sacks. But I really would like to.

yes, Matt I'm a registered donor, including my corneas. One eye is legally blind and I like the idea of someone seeing through it!
Bonfils Blood center won't take my blood because I lived in the UK in the 1980s.
Mad Cow worries. seems that vegheadness matters not.

I'm with wiggy on this one. I don't want my body parts to be experimented on and completely mauled. I'd rather they be put to good use.

Even if my organs went to Research,I'm still a Donor, UNLESS the International Organ Registry had posted for what they need in my blood type! (I wish I knew my blood type!)

urban legend. Donor status is not questioned unless someone is dead, or about to be.

What would a doctor get out of letting you die? It's not like he makes commission off of how many organs he removes for donation... At least I don't think so.

Anyway, doctors aren't heartless beings. I'm sure that they feel they have a responsibility to keep an individual alive at any cost.

there is a huge mafia involved with organ trading. And there are horrible examples. When I lived in Tunisa, I was volunteering in an orphanage. Every child that was not born in a marriage has to grow up in an orphanage (As it was the case in Europe and the US until the about the middle of the last century).

Tunisia is not a very rich country, and they are glad for every baby that gets adopted. They told us that one day, there came in a man who adopted 5 babies at a time. Later they found out that the babies were killed, so their organs could be sold. This is done all the time especially in really poor countries.

(The adoption policies have been changed after that incident, but still a very shocking story)

BTW, I would be fine if my body goes into the anatomy lessons of a uni. My body would remain intakt until all my spirits have gone. Which is not the case with regular organ donorship, because organs still have to have blood flowing through so the tissue don't start decaying. (That starts as soon as the heart stops beating, and no oxygen is comming). If my body goes into that kind of research, I still can help save peoples lifes.
