money is also a lie, it wasn't 100% (well I'll explain it then you be the judge, depends upon your personal skills I suppose) until nixon took us off the gold standard. now for those of you who don't know the gold standard was what we had prenixon, it was how money worked then, if you had gold you could print money if you got a liscense (keen huh?) but it was conditional 1. if you printed money you had to be able to back up your notes with the amount of gold that was represented in your bills (say you had $100 you had to have $100 in gold in your possesion to be able to distribute said $100) and through this system the value of money was fixed by the value of gold that barring the discovery of a use for a huge quantity of gold (huge demand) or a discovery of a huge gold lode (huge supply) the value of gold was more or less fixed and everyone who had money was in the commodities market, you could go to certain places and exchange your cash for it's value precisely in gold this is no longer the case, now the value of a nations (only nations and under certain circumstances large financial agencies can print money now) money is determined by the politics and fiscal condition of the nation, it is no longer so fixed as gold, this has an advantage and a disagvantage pro: there is a fixed quantity of gold on earth and so there was a fixed quantity of money possible without tremendously dilluting it con: money is less stable now now think about it, think about something that costs one dollar....... that is one unit of the worlds confidence in the united states of america...... drink up note: gross oversimplification, money is much more complicated than this especially when you throw the yuan (which is connected to the u.s. dollar) and other currencies and countries that run different standards and all sorts of defferent things into the mix this is as simple as I could make this....
