I see what you're saying. It would take a whole lotta drive and dedication to get the ball rolling, though. We need to publically (on a national level) announce a movement..
I like your thoughts, UXnIHAOnUXbmUXn. Much as I love web production (and am using it to some extent myself) I feel that it too has a limiting quality about it. A web page can be created in your home without ever needing to see another person. It's revolution in our bedrooms. It is also too global... which is fantastic on one hand, but on the other hand there never ends up being a big enough concentration of supporters in any particular part of the world. I think we need to take it outside into our own communities. I guess what I'm saying is that websites are a good idea to get the message out, but without physical action we will not get anywhere.
OK well maybe you will all see something on these boards organised by the SFC (Society For Change). And if it doesnt work then I will give up.
thanks to those who like my idea... I agree about websites having that disadvantage of being trivial pieces of lonely bedroom work, that's exactly what I was pointing out. My point is that people can organize into a community while they express themselves globally. For many of us it's hard to actually make an impact in the community due to the fact so many people are resistant to change in our era. But, we can communicate.. and we can reach out to those like us. All togeather we number to a substantial little community of human beings. The problem is, most of us are isolated in areas that drive us mad or to the point of living in exile like many of the former flower children. I think that's why many of us come here, but we haven't really opened our minds to how much better this experience can be. I imagine the same thing happening that happens in this forum, only represented through new theoretical 'dimentions' of technology. The methods of organizing the information are limitless and are to our own disposal. The challenge is to summon two things: quality information and the motivation to spread it. Think about your motivations and ideas right now as part of the american / european / whatever system.. you put so much energy into playing role playing games, into partying with your friends in their houses, you even take out that same role playing into the digital world. So why not take all your energy and all your desire to play a role and apply it to a more substantial reality? That's exactly what the powers that be haven't told you because they don't want your challenge. A collective role of intelligent liberals on the political scene makes a force to reckoned with... Hell, if a fat highschool dropout from Michigan can raise social controversy, why can't we?
My best idea yet, though (probably) illigal. Get a big boat, build/somehow attain a extremely large, powerful TV transmitter, powerful enough to transmit a signal across the entire US. Declare the boat it's own country with a consititution that allows free tv and radio transmission, then brodcast a message twice a day across all regular antenna channels for about a week stating the place, purpose and date of a march in a place like, say, San Fransisco or New York. Or both. It would work even better if you transmitted it across FM bands too. Make sure to make it completely ananamous. The only problem with this idea is that it would require huge amounts of money and resources. Still, it would be worth it. The broadcast that would change the country.
Ooh, I got an idea. So something more substantial than a website is a newspaper or newsletter. Those can be shared with friends and left in coffeeshops and stuff with ease. So...What if we did a weekly or bi-weekly paper or something, with a snappy name, and anyone from hipforums could submit articles or opinion pieces or poetry or comics or whatever makes a paper great. Then we could have them printed where hip people reside and they could take a little time to go distribute them door-to-door, mail them, or otherwise get them in the public eye. Toss in a couple ads for environmentally conscious businesses and make it free! Plus, I'm sure there are some college profs or people of similar strengths willing to help out. They could help us be as effective as possible getting the message out, read, and understood. I think the main reason the left is floundering is we have no think-tanks. We generally works individually, because when we have the morals we do (not telling the public lies, etc.), there's no need for well-funded groups to conspire. But I'm sure if we could get a couple people like that we could make our message much more effective.
newspaper is very old school, but it's still very effective. Good point you made... Perhaps due to the limited experience most of us have in digital production, we should start with the fundamentals -- ink on paper. If people would like to contribute, feel free to post your stuff here. Let's try to generate some rants and articles that could go into print sometime or atleast spark some talking points. some catagories I might suggest: independant art / music review, conspiracy theories, complaints / response to social injustice, corporate america / media protest, drug liberalization, pacifist philosophy If the content builds up, I'll package it all into a word document that will be fowarded too all the participants. From here we can all discuss and have our say in how it goes. Eventually I'll package it into a pagemaker layout that can be printed by the participants for distribution. People that could host a website / know webdesign are still wanted, as I think there is no doubt internet will play a crucial role in whatever our revolution may be.
I could make cartoons (political or otherwise), as long as I have somebody else coming up with material
im getting good vibes from this whole idea.i think what we should first do is start with the newspaper then once we get the ball rolling and if the idea sticks i could probably make a web page for it or a pointer domain as i know html and am currently with a paid web hoster with which i host my other site on. keep in mind im still busy with my other website so i don't really have the time to focus on this new website at the current time but once i get a little more free time and the concept for this idea gets rolling i'd be happy to take care of the online portion of it.
i hope this idea is still in the works as there havn't been any replies regarding it for quite awhile now.
