As I was laying out on my trampoline this evening, I noticed a sparrow on the very top of a tall pine tree, looking down at me. And I thought about times when I was small, and would climb trees or big hills and pretend that I was "queen of everything below" when of course, that was never the case.

This got me thinking about how we as humans often tend to get some kind of power trip over being in a high place. Like, for example, climbing Mt. Everest or going to the top of the Eifel Tower and looking down. We like to pretend we lord over everything below, but really, everything below is often what lords over us.

Yeah, my mind works in strange ways....

Birds go to high places because they feel safer there.

^And because their song carries better from up high.

yeah, i agree with bill. I like high places for the view, not because I feel powerful. indeed, thats when you realize how small you are and how big the world is.

you never know who you're standing on until the ground falls out from underneath you.
