Arrh just watching the news tonight and the media state Australia's city rail is the worst in the world.... What do you train traveling folks think about our rail sysytem?

Me l can't really comment, l don't catch trains... Last time l was on a train was about 6 yrs ago and l was disgusted, as there was flees on the seats and they where jumping on me.. So l've never been on a train again..

i myself have never been on a train in sydney or anywhere else in australia. i dont live on a train line and i just get busses or drive everywhere. but ive heard stories and it sounds dodgy. the other day my friend was telling me about the time he found a dead body on the train here.

oH ^ sooty that sounds so awful :(.

I catch trains occasionaly if im going to Sydney maybe 10 times a year, and yeah they are great but they arent that bad.
Cant we just be greatful to have a trainline,
Well i think thats a pretty harsh statement,,, i know many third world countries trains would be alot worse that ours,,, its not like the media to exaggerate something (NOTE: Large dose of sarcasm used,,, can be unhealthy).

    Hee hee hee
EDIT: i love Sydney, so dont take that the wrong way

the five p's come to mind

    poor
    performance

maintenance is obviously a major problem, and investment into things like the millenium train. a train just needs to be quiet and relatively clean and comfortable. some questions to ponder are:
why was the millenium train brought into being?
    who benefitted from it?
why was so much money poured into something into a mode of transport that is relatively simple?

i love trains, they rock, except fares are TOO expensive and i think it only fair to pay a reasonable amount of money so i only buy tickets half the time (when travelling in newcastle) yes sydney is fucked up though... i really hate the rule that you cant break your journey coz its a load of bullshit if you get a ticket from newcastle to airport then you have every right to get off at central and have a walk around and stuff. total bullshit if your going from one place to the other then thats simple isnt it.
and TRANSIT OFFICERS are i think the BIGGEST ARSEHOLES in the whole world. cityrail staff are lovely they know the system is bullshit but they dont care as long as they get their paycheque. transit officers just think they are bloody important and powerful but theyre not theyre just bloody ticket inspectors they are menial useless members of society. maitland trains are cool coz you can open the windows and theyre real old fashioned and yeah. trains are better than busses because people are more sociable on trains. ive made heaps of random friends catching the train but on busses people just are really edgy and dont talk unless they know who theyre talking to. the train trip from newcastle to sydney is also really scenic and pretty.

cityrail isnt perfect, but its not bad. also you know where trains go whereas busses are confusing and you have to know what those secret codes on the front of the bus mean. some busdrivers are arseholes. most train drivers are junkies.

TRAINS = TOO EXPENSIVE BUT GOOD WHEN YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH NOT PAYING

i catcha train to school and back every day, as well as taking the train pretty much anywhere i go.

there is one single thing that pisses me off and that is
    1)the shit timetables and efficiency
2)the lack of bins on many stations.

ticket officers are fucks yeh, and so are ticket prices, but the actualy system.. i dont mind it

im sorry, but no one can complain about trains i comparison to buses. THEY do not follow timetables. and fair enough because they have to pick up and let off travellers. But trains are ok.

Trains follow timetables?!? Since when? Well, the one's down at Wollongong run to timetable occasionally. Not often enough to count on, but once or twice I've seen one run on time.
