I live in a small town on the outskirts of Portland, OR; and i wanted to start a drum circle. But i'm not quite sure how to go about it, with there not being a whole lot of culture around here. Most of the culture is in Portland, but i'm trying to open people up around here to the world outside of our little town (washougal) If anyone could help me out? Peace, Malandoris
post notices in the Portland new age and music shops. Make sure you are not in conflict with an existing circle. Get a space and do it in the evening or afternoon to avoid irritating neighbors.
Thanks I'll try that, and I'm pretty sure i wont be interfering with other drum circles there are none in the outlying citys.
I have a drum, but I'm too far away. If you listen real hard you might hear me. I'm the guy that sounds like he doesn't know what he is doing. I like to sit on my patio late at night, and when the cop who lives below me is away, and drum a soft beat. Only occaisionally do I get someones attention like the random late night dog walker.
havent been to portland in years, but i remember there were really big drum circles all weekend & also on the full moon but here in philly we've had 1 going aslong as anyone cabn remember, & its not starting the circle that was the problem, it was hidding it so too many of the wrong crowd didnt show up. for years we'd move it around but we'd still get about 500 or so people, 95% of them were there to get drunk do drugs stand knee deep in trash start fights cause problems then run when the cops came leaving about 12 of us to clean up after them.. we tried to chase away the nitrus & crazy designer drug dealers & were threattened with guns even at timres..so the main group of drummers went & disapeared into the woods 2 years ago & its been beautiful ever since. my poinyt is, i wouldnt advice advertising it much, i'd just invite a few freinds, if 5 show the first week they'll invite a few more & it will grow..bu once its larger then say 100, i'd have a backup space availible to move to at the first sign of trouble
