    Hey,
I live in a small town in Australia and I want to start natural dreadlocks, but I dont think there is body shop place or natural soap/shampoo kinda place in town... I went to the supermarket and I found some tea tree oil but in a thread I read, It said to watch out for a chemical called Lauryl sulfate or something along those lines..... and so far all of the shampoos I've looked at all have this chemical.....please help I dont know which one to buy....

Dude, I've been using regular shampoo for a year and a half, and my dreads aren't moldy or anything. Just stay away from the conditioning shampoo.

Also if you look in any local markets etc.... ones that you'd usually expect your granny to go to so you'd never go yourself kinds of markets, then there may well be some local people making soaps. My step mum does it. You can enquire to them if they do shampoo bars or not. My step mum doesnt yet but she said she swould look into making some for me.

Or a company called Lush, i know they have it in canada as well as over here in england. im not sure about Oz though. Or just search online for small soap sellers in australia that post only in oz and you may well find something. Just look up their ingrediants of their soap. look for things with maybe lemon in it, or tea tree, maybe a little bit of aloe but thats slightly moisturising i think, it does help strengthen the hair though. Also sea salt is good, but if your soap has sea salt in it i wouldnt use it weekly as you MIGTH get a build up of sea salt in your dreads... depends.

I used to wash my dreads weekly... then it became every two weeks...then it was when ever i could be bothered to have wet dreads or if they smelt from pubs etc. I've run out of shampoo now so its been a while... but they dont look too bad. after about 2 months im getting itchies and hoping i get a chance to pop into the town that i know has a lush soon :p
