Well I have this hemp necklace I made and I wear it all the time.. When I first made it, I used water to soften it up a bit... And I don't get it wet now but...

I'm going to the beach soon and wanted to know if it'd be cool to wear it in the pool/ocean or will that ruin it? Thanks

i wear my hemp ALLL the time including rivers, lakes, and oceans. it just wears the hemp more. sometimes makes it smell funny. i wouldnt worry too much if you wear it in the ocean, and if you wear it down too much, ( i personally like the funny smells and the broken in look of hemp) you can just make a new one! i love redesigning stuff that way. good luck!

The old sailing ships actaully used hemp fabric for their sails. Hemp wicks water off. I had a hemp hair wrap for over two years in my hair and used to just get my gf that did it to put on an extention to cover what grew out for looks and so the hair didnt break and the wrap wouldn't fall off. Thats why the hair wraps done it cotton get so nasty. They mildew if they don't dry right.

ummm...the kind they do at fests...she braided a piece then macramed hemp around the hair...LOL..I'm a hafta take a piccy of it one day. Only have my web cam now but I'll try to get a decent pic, lol, I kept it after I finally got tired of it and cut it off. You can see where she did the additions too. My hair grows really slow too tho but after it would grow out a coupla inches I would get her to add more to the roots and try to cover the knotty spots with beads. She was the best one doing them that I've ever seen.

hey don't worry about the salt water i live in australia and i'm at the beach all the time the salt water does make the hemp a little bit more tight like it sort of makes it go harder then what it was before going in the salt water but when you get out of the water just rinse it with fresh water and you'll be ok :)

Hm...I don't think it would, mine never have gotten wreaked by salt water, or chlorine or anything.

hmm...i still don't get it...so your hair was in a braid? the only festival thing i've ever been to was a rainbow gathering some years ago...and one grateful dead show...not much of a hippie i guess, lol. but anyways, i don't remember seeing anything like that. not that i was always in a frame of mind to notice ordinary things...heh.

They do shitty but cute lil hair wraps at beaches like OC, but this was made to last. She braids a chunk of hair where ever you want the hair wrap and how much depends on how long you want it to last or how much you don't mind losing when it breaks off or you cut it off. Then she takes fine hemp twine (whatever color you want) and macrames it around the braid and ends it with a bead. Mine that I cut off is floating somewhere around this house. I kept it after I cut it off. Actually I don't see to many women doing them anymore.
