Can someone explain the Eastern Orthodox's position on Heaven and Hell? I had it explained to me this way (well, I read about it online actually); Heaven and Hell are the in the same place, in the presence of God's infinit love for you, but depending on how you lived your mortal life you will either enjoy or loathe this place. God loves you soooooooo much that the love is actually painful(ie Hell) if you chose evil in this life, proving you don't truly love him. And Heaven is obviously the ability to experience this love in its perfect form by being completely clean from sin, by accepting Jesus's gift. Is this the correct view on Eastern Orthodoxy's position on Hell? I was a bit shocked when I read this, because I had this same theory on Heaven and Hell long before I had heard of Eastern Orthodoxy.
i woulnjt think this is true, because from what i understand...the only difference between Othodoxy and regular Catholicism is that regular Catholicism recognises the Pope as the head of the church, while the Orthodoxy part doesnt... i might be mistaken... EDIT: ahhhh, wikipedia, the source for everything... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Orthodoxy#Salvation_and_the_afterlife
*poke* I introduced you to Wikipedia! Now it's your encyclopedia too, eh? There's more difference, women and men are devided, they use incense, etc. More tradition than Catholicism. I don't know the answer to the asker's (?) question though. Sorry,
well i used it before too...my friend was the one who told me it is just a site where people can post the information themselves, which i find quite handy... well one of the things i like with orthodoxy is the coser ties to the Jewish roots, as well as the "only God, through His mercy, grants you into heaven" sort of deal... and looking at what the site says about the afterlife of the Eastern Orthodox sect, i dont think it is any different [i dont know if it has purgatory though]
