If I hear that comment from any one else i'll (well I don't believe in violence) scream. First of all I came on here over a month ago and asked for advice about becoming a veggie but said I would probably still eat fish. I don't eat anything thats meat or causes an animal to die in my diet anymore and I include fish in this statement. But the amount of comments ive had from people who don't seem to understand or find it odd or insist that veggies eat fish because they consider it not to be meat. I say 'its not a bloody vegatable is it?' I thought people would be a bit more enlightened in this day and age and I know that people on here certainly are. so what experince have you lot had from others ?? S
The problem is that a lot of people don't understand basic biology. They think that fish aren't animals because they aren't mammals. I've gotten the fish comment before too. My favorite was; "So, since you're vegan you can eat fish right? Fish aren't animals."
I think that becoming Veggie has been one of the best moves Ive made in my life. however ive noticed that at work the veggie option is invariably egg or cheese, since i think that a lot of diary isn't that healthy I have been eating more vegan meals at home. I admire you for being vegan, i think its a lot harder than being veggie S
its ok to eat fish cause tehy dont have any feelings (Nirvana quote, Somthins in the way) heh i dont know what wrong wiht me if i look at a chicken or rabit its like aww cute, where i used to think rabit stew and buffalo wings. But I have no qulams over busting a fish on the head with a metal rod to kill it faster. I cut pike in the gills (alive) to bleed them out so they taste better. oh my veggie experiment is still going well, ive cut my meat intake way down. Im only eating fish a few times a week, and maby an egg or two. One added bonus I never thought of, by not spending so much on meat, i can afford to get the good stuff. I had lobster tonight. whats the thought on eating crustations
lobsters are animals, everyone has different views but I don't eat any kind of animal knowingly or of my free will. I can't become vegan yet but once I move out/support myself I will become a vegan.
Agreed, infact if one cooks them alive I would have thought they would have felt a lot of pain, lets hope I never come back as a fish and find out. S
This is one of the things that really bug me. Somebody who gets the idea that vegetarians eat fish. I know a few part time vegetarians (that is what I call them). People who say fish are vegetarian or are a better alternative to meat I have this little gem of info for them. It is a known fact that mass fishing is harmful for the enviroment. Some fish are being dragged out of the sea almost to extinction. Whats more fish can contain large quantities of neuro toxins like mercury. Fish farming is also very enviromentally damaging. One of the biggest causes of river pollution. Matt
When I was in the hospital I told them I was a vegetarian and no matter how many times I told them they insisted on serving me fish. I too believe fish most definatly count as meat and I don't think you are really a vegeterian if you eat them...Like people who only eat poultry, it's not a veggie diet... It's fine I don't want to discriminate on peoples eating habits, but I think if you are a vegetarian you do not eat meat...that includes all animals...
again I agree, people can eat what they want, but please don't call yourself veggie if you eat fish and please don't class fish as not being meat its just really silly. your ethier veggie or your not if you occasionally eat meat and fish then your not veggie S
Yup fish are definetly an animal/meat. I went to a hotel in Poland and told them I was veggie. Then was promptly served fish. Had to laugh though. I used to love eating fish. But I loved my goldfish Caspian too. It just hit me one day that there was no real diffrence between Caspian and the salmon we ate. With regard lobsters et all. If anything I find the concept of eating, or rather cooking, them almost worse than fish. They boiled alive and of course that hurts. TTFN Sage
I used to go shrimping a lot. Don't do it any more. I can tell you from experience when you boil them they scream. So it must hurt. Matt
So are many people, but you don't eat them. Intelligence is relative and not really relevant. What matters is that they suffer. TTFN Sage
Well, it's illegal to eat people. And untill it's un-illegal, I'll just keep eating my fish, thank you.
It is very annoying how many people assume that fish is vegetarian. I get aske dif i eat fish, and I willsay "no - I'm a veggie, so I don't eat meat" I've had quite a few arguments with my mum about this, and she believes that a vegetarian eats fish, but a vegan does not. I have tried to correct her, but she's having none of it. I might as well be talking to a brick wall. She thinks I'm just a "strict vegetarian" because i don't eat fish. I'm actually pretty much your standard ovo-lacto vegetarian. I can sorta understand the misconception about fish and vegetarianism. After all, catholics don't eat "meat" on fridays - So they eat fish!!!!! The problem is that people often do not realise that vegetarians don't eat fish. The vegetarian society says that vegetarians don't eat fish, and pretty much any vegetarian organisation will also say that. And then there are people who say "Do you eat chicken?" I've just said that I'm a vegetarian! Of course i don't eat chicken. That goes against the whole idea of vegetarianism! Now, if anyone does insist on saying that some vegetarians eat fish, I'll take them through a three step reconciliation program, starting with two premises: 1.) A vegetarian is somebody who does not eat animals. 2.) A fish is an animal And then step three is quite simple - The conclusion, and that is that: 3.) If a vegetarian is someone who doesn't eat animals, and a fish is an animal, then one can easily assume that fish isn't vegetarian.
I tell them chicken doesn't come from eggplant and fish do not grow on seaweeds. humor really helps. Even with retarded people who make cheesey self-portraits on themselves holding instruments in someone's mom's house....... It's OK , you will grow out of it... all my high school budies did.
i'm really annoying my veggie friends cause ive really only just started and they've slipped into eating fish and chicken. bloody part timers!!!!!!!!!!!! S
