Am I the only person who still buys tape. Everyone uses cds now and those ipod things that hold 1000 songs yet can fit into a tape box. I also still listen to the old recordings I have on 8 track and record rather than buying the new tape. I dont see whats wrong with them they work fine.

I used blank tapes to archive some of my CDs. I'm weird like that.

iPod? For Christ's sake, I don't even own a discman. Much less a walkman.

Or even a damn cell phone.

Not that I'm complaining. I'm proud to be old school.

I hide my stash in the tape player part of my CD player, so if I bought tapes I'd have to find a new place to hide my weed, and that' not something I want to do, but if tapes are your thing, more power to ya.

I also heard that when a recording is digitally remastered it wont sound the same as the origional. Therefore if you like old music vinyl is a great way to go.

    Well, yeah. Hence digital remastering.

I mean, come on. Put the bong down and think about it.

Im not takling about sound quality man. If the origional was sounding clear and you heard the remaster of it you can hear a difference on sum of them. I have Pink Floyd The Wall on vinyl and my brother has it on cd and they sound different like the tone of the song. Not the sound quality.

What you must bear in mind is the fact that virtually ALL classic songs of the last 40-50 years were originally recorded on tape. I think it's kinda funny the techno-jocks going on about digital tracks on their Ipods, when they are STILL listening to a digital reproduction of an ANALOGUE recording!

I have a old TASCAM tape 4 track, that I prefer to my digital recorder. It sounds better to my - old? - ears.

HOWEVER....there is no denying that digital recording for even old musicians, like myself, is FAR easier and more flexible, especially for editing, and mixing down, and adding effects.

Also, when I submit a demo, I HAVE to send a CD or MP3 file or wav file, even though I have recorded the original on tape, simply because the 'suits' are ,nowadays, young, tech savvy, go-getters who would put any casette tape straight in the bin!

for those who use tape, doesn't it bother you that you have to rewind and all that crap??

i would agree to an certain extent that music is more generally warmer on tape than digitals like CDs

Not much of problem for me. I dont skip songs I listen to the whole album. All i have to do is flip the tape. And in my car you dont even need to do that. I got the one of the best car stereos... of the 80s. If you bought an album just because of one or two songs you like you are wasting money. Why not get a good ol 45.
