It's the same old story. Long time smoker, first time grower. had 10 seeds as a housewarming gift. 6 survived, and now they're all about 2 feet high in 6" pots, all female (showing hairs). - Growing in an apartment in a 6x6x9 storage closet located RIGHT beside the front door. Used foam weather trim around the door to seal the room. - light two ballasts, each has 2 of those plant/aquarium bulbs. - Box fan pointed at wall to draw air rather than push it at plants. - using miracle-gro liquid diluted in water (as directed) once a week, watering when the pots are light (using the lift-pot method) - vegged for 2 months. may 18. they were sprouts. - hurried into veg on july 4th. (I didn't want them getting too tall/stinky as I'm in a seniors apartment mostly and it's close to the door and I've never even SEEN a live plant before this let alone grown one). SO that puts me 2 weeks into veg. The Problem: - I'm getting some yellowing fan leaves with dead spots on them, and I think this might have been because I was spraying the closet with glade aerosol fertilizer before company came over. I sprayed it into the fan and let it circulate. - I quit doing this when I started flowering, and so far the dead-spots on the leaves has stopped, but most of the existing fan leaves have been affected, so out of the 6 plants I lose about 1-2 fan leaves a day. This speeds up the growth of the smaller leaves around the nodes, and makes the plant bushier. - It should also be noted that the humidity in there gets very high, up to 85 percent. It never gets lower than 50 percent. I chose to do the light cycle overnight from 7p-7a in case I had company etc so that they could be hidden somewhere dark, stash the ballasts etc.. But this leaves the door closed w/ the lights on overnight and when I open the door early in the morning the 33 degree 88% humid air is like a sauna. Is this bad for the plants? I try to keep the door open when I'm at home during the light cycle. - back to the loss of fan leaves....does this conflict with the flowering? It's like the plant is trying to catch up with veg growth for the lost fan leaves, while I'm already forcing it with 12/12 to flower. And now I've already got the hairs just starting to sprout. - secondly, the spotty pattern, I'm pretty sure could be from where the aerosol coated the plant, then when sprayed it down, collected in drips on the leaves and caused the dead spots... - lastly on some of the plants, in the potting soil, there are those little styrofoam bits, and in some of the pots the strofoam bits are slightly tainted yellow, but these plants are no better/worse of than the others. Basically, I'm just looking for advice, wondering if this is all normal, and if my assumptions are correct. I'm just learning as I go along, you know? It's like a first time parent not knowing how to change a diaper... (btw, I think there are 2 kinds.. california orange, and afghani)
I'm confused. "- vegged for 2 months. may 18. they were sprouts. - hurried into veg on july 4th. (I didn't want them getting too tall/stinky as I'm in a seniors apartment mostly and it's close to the door and I've never even SEEN a live plant before this let alone grown one). SO that puts me 2 weeks into veg."--does not compute. I think some of the times when you say veg you mean flowering. Some pointers: -Although plants will grow with crappy ventilation (like keeping the door open with a fan pointed in), they do MUCH better with flo-through ventilation. -NO light during lights out. Even the tiny light on a power strip in the growroom can prevent budding. -NEVER spray anything on your plants except plain water or a foliar feed of very light nutrients. -Plant/aqu. lights grow poor marijuana. For quality ganja you need HPS, at the rate of 50 watts per sq/ft. -Miracle Grow is bottom-of-the-barrel nutrients. There are a lot of good ones on the market; I suggest going to a nursery and telling a knowledgable person you're growing habeno chili's and ask their advice. Or order from a grow shop, which usually specialize in nutrients best for mj. -Lastly, let me suggest you read and re-read a grow book.
yeah.. sorry. it was late at night.. I meant to say.. Hurried to flowering. not veg.// So the plant/aquarium red spectrum bulbs aren't so great huh? If I picked up the standard white, would those be better? The plant/aqua bulbs worked GREAT with the veg.. they shot up really fast. I'm totally taking notes here, so thanks!
