really suck. Good god I'm scared of them... well, of those buzzing whirring machines. The picking and crap I can deal with. Anywho, I have three cavities to fill still and I need to get all my wisdom teeth taken out. One wisdom tooth is trying to erupt and is pretty sore, do ya'll have any suggestions to help with that (aside from not chewing on that side of the mouth )
I had my wisdom teeth out... I was absolutely terrified because it was the only time I have ever had general anesthesia... I'm not sure, but I just have some sort of phobia about relinquishing control of my own body to someone else. However, I do recommend the general anesthesia, because then the procedure isn't really an experience at all... you're totally unconscious while it happens. The only actual bad part is the recovery, when you get to eat pudding and applesauce for a month. Also, I didn't realize there was going to be gauze and junk in my mouth when I woke up, and that made my mouth feel even weirder than it already felt because of the numbness that was slowly wearing off. So be prepared for that. If you have any more questions about wisdom teeth surgery, you can ask me if you'd like.
I'm lucky enough to a)have never gotten a cavity, and b)don't have any wisdom teeth I hate and am terrified of the dentist anyway....makes no sense....
I have to take out all 4 wisdom teeth. But I will do it under the same narcotic then while surgery. It heals a lot better, because the body isn't under so much stress then when you are awake while they do it. And I will take out all 4 at once. But I am totally scared. I still haven't made an appointment.
yeah, I need to get all my wisdom teeth taken out too. But I have to wait until after Aug 31 for my health plan to cover it :S So not looking forward to that, and to eating soup and apple sauce for a bloody long time.
My husband had his widom teeth out about 3 years ago, he wanted to stay awake through the whole thing, his teeth were all impacted so they were going to have to brake them and he want to be able to hear them cracking (he's sick I know! lol) he thought it was cool! he said the only thing that hurt was getting the novicane shots, other then that the whole process was painless and he was eatting soup later the same day, back on soilds the next day, and back to work! he heals quickly I guess but as for me I'm nervious cause I'm in need of having mine out and I just hope it'll go as well as his! I don't want to be put out cause I'm worried about being left alone unconscious with the dentist! (I don't trust anyone! hehe) I wish there was some way my husband could be in the room the time of surgery, but I doubt they'll allow that. Any of you mama's worried about that, or is it just me?
oh dear god this hurts. I think he just barely missed the right spot a couple times with the numbing needle (he had to give me two extra because I wasn't numb enough on the one side) but jesus they hurt now. advil hasn't kicked in yet. Doesn't help that the oral assistant was new. GRAR, are there any other anti-pain things I could use in conjuction with two extra strength advils? as for wisdom teeth... two are badly impacted and have to be taken out by an oral surgeon. I think I'll just get all of them done at once by the surgeon (6-8months to book, blarg) and just pay the extra to get them all done by the surgeon.
I don't understand, why are they numbing you if the procedure is 6-8 months away? You're gonna hate me for this, but I don't think you are even supposed to use Advil. Ibuprofen can increase bleeding after a surgical procedure. I have always been told to use only extra-strength Tylenol. I know firsthand that it hurts like heck, but I don't know anything else you can do about it. Sorry. If it is unbearable, ask your dentist or doctor for a prescription painkiller.
They use ibuprofen for it's anti-inflammatory properties. It can increase bleeding, but this shouldn't be a problem after dental surgery.
er, jeez I didn't make this clear. I got three fillings done today, not any wisdom teeth. And they gave me advil for the first two fillings I had done last week. My teeth aren't in very good shape. Still sore on that side though, grr
Eeep... I had to have 3 baby teeth pulled and that was bad enough. I wanted to be put to sleep for that. This is how bad my phobia is of anything surgical... I went into shock when I heard the crack. *shudder* So basically, my dentist who I've known for 15 years knows that unless it's URGENT that I will refuse to have it done. So I have 3 wisdom teeth and some new guy dentist suggested that I get them all pulled. I told him calmly to get my normal dentist and then made them both sit with me and explain why exactly I needed them out since they weren't impacted. Turns out I don't need them out. They just thought that the pain of having them break through the gum would be worse. So far one of them is completely through and the other two are partially. The only thing I have to worry about is to watch for infection. And thank God because I would probably pass out alone from feeling the stitches with my tongue.
ughh...im off to the Dentist tomorrow after avoiding them for a few years *shudder*. Haha, I can remember being like 6 or something and locking my Mom out of the car when we had to go, eventually my dentist came outside to try and coax me out...The neon green plastic bouncy balls meant nothing to me back then...nor the balloons... Im thinking I need my Wisdom teeth out aswell, I guess ill find out tomorrow. My prayers are with you m'dear...BE STRONG!!..this too shall pass.
they'll sedate you, don't you worry. if you're feeling anxious, just ask 'em for the nitrous oxide--you'll be higher than you've ever been and you won't give a DAMN about what's going on. trust me.
damn straight they're knocking me out for my wisdom teeth. Ugh. It's just the other stuff that drives me crazy, the fillings and all that jazz. The machines grinding down on my teeth. The really shitty assistant the second time I went there who kept jabbing the back of my throat and almost triggering my gag reflex, getting amalgam bits on the back of my throat and under my tongue.. gah. speaking of, I need to call the dental folks back to make an appointment for my wisdom teeth.
