It will be in a prescription vial. Read the strength! No one can give you information, because you don't know what it is you may take! It will either say Ativan, or it will be labeled by the generic name, lorazepam. It is only available in 3 strengths, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, and 2 mg.
I have taken ativan/lorazepam for anxiety, and first I want to warn you that it is a prescription narcotic that is VERY addictive. It sedates and calms you, but I don't think it generates any sort of euphoria. Second, sharing prescription drugs could land you in jail. Third, the pills are usually far too small to cut into fourths or even halves - you will just pulverize them. If you truly have anxiety problems, see a qualified psychiatrist. If you don't, you shouldn't be taking anxiety medicine.
I agree with your warning. It is both addictive and sedating. Combined with other drugs or alcohol, or by itself in very high doses, it can be deadly. It is not, however, a narcotic. Narcotic, in the strict sense, refers to opiate painkillers. It is also often used synonymously with Schedule II. Ativan (lorazepam) is neither. It is in Schedule IV, which does make it a controlled drug, and a federal offense to possess or consume it if not prescribed..
Lonely Goatherd was right, it's addictive. I took it once for a few months for anxiety. I stopped it when the price for 30 pills suddenly went from $13 to $43. It wasn't pleasant at all. I experienced severe anxiety, hot flashes, sweating, itching and insomnia for a month. It's great for anxiety though. It won't make you high, as far as I know. But I always took the prescribed dose.
