And who was your favorite Monkee? I liked the introspective Monkee, Peter Tork.

Not really, more like 'bubble gum' or 'pop'. Haven't really watched their tv show but have seen clips here and there, but I have heard their music.

no they wernt.. they were more product then they were music... they just used the styles of the time to make money, not doing anything original... plus everything they did was justa a rip off of the beatles

They weren't original... which is why you never hear a whole lot about them anymore.

    Marketing.

Any popular Band in the Mid to late 60s contribute to the Era of the Hippies. and the Monkees was part of it. The Monkees had to keep it clean becouse it was a TV network who give them the chance and many hippies did not like the clean music. oh well tought shit.

If you want split hairs yes since a real hippie would not even own a stereo or even a portable radio.

Who is to define who/what is a "real" hippie.

    It doesn't matter.

If you think about it, The Monkees were the opposite of "hippies." The Monkees were created by a corporation that wanted to make money off the entire hippie phase.. it worked, obviously.

The Monkees weren't really a band, they were actors. It started as a show about a fictional band. During the first season they weren't even playing the instruments kinda like Milli Vanilli.
