I work as a dance instructor and today I helped a little girl get her sneakers on after class...Her mom and i were walking out to the parkinglot and the little girl looks over and says: "Miss Annie, where are your shoes?" And I say "Well, Lauren, I don't wear shoes." She gives me a strange look, then looks up at her mom and says "Yeah mommy, see, Miss Annie doesn't wear shoes and you always make me." She sits down on the ground and takes her sneakers off right there in the parkinglot... I think I just birthed a new barefooter.
Her mom didn't seem mad...of course she's one of the more open people I've met around here... We'll see how the girl comes to class next week *laughs*
Her mum is obviously mad for making her wear shoes. A downright loony. Bet she was pretty bloody furious at you though!
It has occured to me that a lot of kids will copy what adults do... Two of my friend/massage therapist's nieces were over the day I went to get my massage and we all took the dog for a walk and I went barefoot...as we were walking his six year old niece turns around and says "Hey, Annie, you don't have any shoes on!" I reply, "I don't???" and I look down at my feet. She giggles. Pretty soon she says..."These shoes are hurting my feet, I'm taking them off!" She went barefoot for hte rest of the day... Maybe we should all be barefooting role-models to kids...show them the way...cuz it has occured to me...they'll copy you if they admire you.
Hehe jaycees little sister (just turned 11) used to be a totally body free kid, no clothes at all. Then last spring (obviously shes grown up now and taken to wearing clothes and shoes) when she met me and saw i was a barefooter she took to walking the dog and going down to the shops barefoot with me its great.
