I was working in rural Kankakee County last night when this storm blew in. Half the horizon was just a regular thunderstorm, but the rest of sky was glowing with intense gold & orange & pink hues - the photos don't do the colors justice. .
thanks guys - yea Pav, it was beautiful & eerie, you could feel static electricity in the air before the lightning would fire up
Be careful with that lightning. I know someone in a town near me who was taking photos of a storm about 15 miles away. The air was charged up out ahead of the storm. Lightning struck his camera. His camera was on a tripod and the front part of the camera got melted. .
awesome..i live in rual kankakee ..but unfortunetly i was in joliet the night of the storm....awesome pics... come visit me sometime!
What kind of camera setup did you use to catch the lightning? I thought maybe you left the shutter open, but the rest of the pic is not washed out and I don't see any blurring on the tree leaves. .
thanks Emily shaggie ~~ These photos were taken with a Canon A80, in Landscape mode, with the flash off. We took a couple bar stools outside and I snapped over 200 photos at random intervals - after reviewing the shots on my pc, I only saved 15 photos - and only 4 of the saved shots had had visible lightning. ~~~ hey Rar1013 - I'll send ya a pm the next time I'm down for a show - I get out to Muggs & Sudds in Momence & The Parkway, out by the state park, for poker runs -- I heard that there's going to be a local battle of the bands in Bird Park this fall ?? I'll let ya know if get any more info
