I was watching the network news on Saturday while waiting for Saturday Night Live. They had the obligatory Iraq story, and it was about how some building got blown up. I can't remember what the anchorwoman said exactly, but it was something like: "U.S. Marines attacked an insurgent hideout today. [shot of wrecked building] Over 120 insurgents were killed and the area was recaptured by U.S. troops. "The news was not all good, however. 6 U.S. Marines were also killed." "The news was not all good, however...." "...not all good, however..." So basically what they're saying is that it's all splendid and scrumtrilescent when we kill dozens of Iraqi militiamen, but it's not okay when there's a tiny bit of retribution. We're invading their country, and we won't leave, but we get pissed off when something bad happens because of our megalomaniacal stubbornness. Oh, yeah. We're giving them democracy. It's all okay then. Bullshit.
I hope it was just a poor choice of words on the part of that anchorwoman. That's something I'd expect Bush to say. "Yeehaa! Marines 120, Insurgents 6! What a blowout!"
meh, it's that time again time for America's periodic display of military might, just to remind the rest of us who has enough nuclear weaponry to wipe out humanity multiple times over DIDN'T THEY SEE SUPERMAN 4??!?!?!?!?!
