I've never heard of anyone sucessfully growing pot outside in the Isles.
Late springs, early falls, not enough sun in the summer.
I've heard of people growing pot in heated insulated greenhouses (hothouses) in England, with supplemental light.

you can grow many strains of hemp outdoors here in jolly ol' blighty....non of them will get ya stoned tho'.

I've heard rumours of smokable outdoor hardy herbage hybrids around....never seen one personally....if yer friend genuinely has one, we need to talk ;)

It might be possible, he would have to grow it indoor through the winter then transplant it outdoor plus he would need a good summer, thats something i no nothing about as i live in (CENTRAL SCOTLAND). Im afraid the best way for us in the UNITED KINGDOM OF RAINLAND is indoor.

I've tried about 4 or 5 crops in some local woods.
I've never been able to produce anything worth
writing home about. The bud, once dried and cured,
looks and smells fine but the high is so mild that it
makes me think was it all worth it, despite growing
from expensive and reliable seed crop.
My advice, if you have the room, is to grow them in
peak summer outside then move them in under an
HPS grow light when they are ready to flower.
I'm just not convinced UK weather is good enough.
