i planted seeds, and they have come up as seedlings... looking like mini chicves with black seeds on the end. my question is, how long does it take for the onions to form. they look like they have stopped growing they have stayed at about 5cm in height!! HELP!!

    Edit:
Just realized you were talking about seedlings you hadn't planted yet. I really don't know, since they're not in the ground. It just sounds like they've already went to seed, themselves. If you can find a picture online,to compare, then you could see if they've matured too fast?

You say that there are black seeds at the end? Were the black seeds on them when they first sprouted? If so, they are actually the shells of the original seeds. Or did they grow since? If they are recent, then your onions are going to seed. You want to kill the flower or seed now, since once a plant goes to seed, its nutrients are put towards making the flower and seed stronger instead of "vegetating", or increasing plant growth, or growing the root.

could be that they just need thinning out a bit. transfer some to another pot/tray and let them breath a lil' ......they should start growing like crazy :sunglasse
