Hippie article

i was reading this article. i find it quite inspirational to me, in trying to answer the question thats been on my mind. How do i stay a hippie and believe the teachings of my Lord. Check out the article:

Easy. Er, love God with all your heart and love your neighbour like yourself. What you wear, eat, drink, smoke, etc. is immaterial really.

 

I've often said that Hippyness and Christianity are matched well

 

i had the idea that if i were a hippie u were atheist!?
and u excessed in drugs and alcohol (which if christian) which is abusive to the self.
so do u think the true meaning of a hippie can accept different things??

You know Fuzzy? I would say that you suffer from some form of dementia praecox as well. You don't even know God exists...

 

You can do small amounts of alcohol with little or no harm to the self.

You can also kill yourself drinking too much water.

 

Being a hippie and being an atheist are totally un-related. You can of course be both at the same time, but there is no necessary or inhearant connection. I'm fairly certain that Jesus would not approve of the "free love" stuff, but drugs are another matter. Jesus did not approve of getting drunk, but he did approve of drinking wine. Drinking wine is about as harmful (or non-harmful) as smoking pot, assuming that you don't do either to excess. Why then would Jesus approve of one but disapprove of the other? For that matter one cigarette is much worse for you than a couple of bong hits. Would Jesus disapprove of smoking one cigarette? We have no indication at all Jesus disapproved of "mind altering substances" what he diapproved of was excessive use, over-indulgance, etc.
Hippies do not necessarily over-indulge, some do but that is not necessary in order to be a hippie. In fact you can be a hippie and not use drugs at all.
