Hi all - Couldn't find a Caribbean forum here so thought I'd try Latin America. I'll be going to the Caribbean next year for my first time and wonder how many of you all have good ideas and suggestions for your favorite island, most fun, beautiful, magical and all that good stuff - and favorite places to say - and would you share it, please? there's no way i'd stay in one of those big all-inclusive resorts (sandals, beaches, etc.) - we want to really get the feel of wherever we end up - something casual, on the beach, laid back but kayaks nearby. :sunglasse Have you been there? Do you know the islands well? do you have recommendations? Many thanks - a nd for sure, love ya! GW
Personally i would recommend west coast Puerto Rico. On the northern end you have surfing, on the southern end the water is calm. Rincon, is the surfer place. Look for a place on Sandy Beach. In the winter the waves are huge. Good snorkeling to be found off of Steps Beach. Cabo Rojo is hot and dry. Good place for kayaking. Combate beach is beautiful and relaxing, Parador Bahia Salinas is nice but no kayaks. The place right next door to it has them tho but i don't know there name. On the other end of Puerto Rico it is much more metropolitan with casinos and resorts and night clubs. There are two islands there called Vieques and Culebra which are precious and very small. You will need to rent a car. You can use your US money and a decent amount of people speak english. And people are very friendly, especially on the west coast.
Hey if you decide to go there and have any other questions let me know. http://www.elyunque.com/caborojo.html http://www.rinconpr.com/ these sites are not the be all end all of sites about pr but they should be enough to give you a taste.
