I'm happy about that:DI read it earlier today

To those of you who don't wanna check it out, basically he won't let KFC in Tibet because he believes in fair treatment of animals since he;s a vegetarian and Buddhist.

That's nice, but what does it have to do with PETA?

    Same here :)

I saw a video about him once. He's so happy and kind, reminds me of Yoda for some reason. :)
I've got a little book or his teachings/words of wisdom. Whilst I never claim to be Buddhist I agree with a lot of his ideas.

Re Inbloom: One of the main rules of Buddhism (commandments if you will) is not to kill/harm living creatues. As a result most Buddhists are veg*an.
Monks/nuns however rely on food being given to them. So occasionally they will be given meat, they will eat it.
Their argument is it would be rude to reject was is essentially a gift, and this would cause further suffering.

Ditto Peach, it's a wildcard. Shorthand for vegetarian/vegan if you will. Shows you're in the club :)

The Dalai Lama does eat some meat for health reasons. He also does not live in Tibet he lives in exile in India and therefore has nothing to do with the governing of Tibet, it is controlled at the moment by China.

I had a chance to hear him speak this past May, he's a beautiful person. :)

Here's a message from the admin of the PETA2 board regarding the confusion over the KFC/Dali Lama letter...When PETA’s president, Ingrid Newkirk, contacted the Dalai Lama in February, asking him to write a letter to KFC regarding its mistreatment of chickens and its planned expansion into Tibet, she indicated clearly that PETA would send his letter to KFC’s CEO and also share it with the media. She wrote, “Please have your office fax [your letter] to my attention … so that we can send the letter to the media and to the CEO of KFC’s parent company.”

When the Dalai Lama’s KFC letter arrived at PETA last month, it was accompanied by a cover page from his office, describing it as “the appeal to KFC to abandon its plans to open restaurants in Tibet.” PETA regrets any confusion but maintains that it only followed through on its original plan, as communicated to the Dalai Lama, by addressing the letter to David Novak, CEO of KFC’s parent company, Yum! Brands. It was always PETA’s understanding that the Dalai Lama intended PETA to address his letter to the appropriate executive at KFC.

What remains most important is that the Dalai Lama does not dispute the content of his letter—his call for KFC not to expand into Tibet—and that KFC now says that its plans to do business in Tibet have been canceled.

I don't know who told him that but if its true that he was told to eat meat for "health" reasons he was told a lie. Nutritional research has proven that no one needs to eat meat for "health" reasons and there is always an alternative.

Who told you this? I doubt very much he eats meat for "health reasons", since eating meat isn't particularly healthy in itself.

Why would anyone eat chicken if they were sick?

My guess is that his doctor is an idiot who didn't want to admit that he didn't know the veg alternative and instead of sending him to a nutritionist he told the Dalai Lama some bullcrap about chicken being "healthy" so that he (the doctor) wouldn't look wrong. Why is it so hard for doctors to admit that they aren't nutritionists? It's actually a totally seperate science from medicine.
