Hey all, I'm not a big fan of using medication so before I feel forced to I'm wondering if anyone has some suggestions on relieving migraines. I've tried smoking pot but it just seems to mess with my head even more.
I have strange headaches that are pretty painful, so if anyone knows of some ways I could bring the pain down it would be very helpful. Thank you.

First of all,are you sure the headaches are migraines? Where does it hurt..like on the left side, right side, forehead, neck, etc? Also,do you have any other symptoms during the headache such as sensitivity to noise and lights, nausea?
Do they seem to be triggered by anything..like using the computer, something you eat, etc?

Sorry to ask so many questions, but I get migraines and the doctors will usually ask these questions to narrow down what type of headache it is and what's causing the headaches. Because if something triggers your headaches, figuring it out and trying to eliminate the cause is the best cure.

yeh you dont want it being a tumor, isolate exactly when the headache happens and if its all teh time then see the doctor.

try drinkning a large amount of coffee and see if that helps it. unfortunately then it could hurt even more when you come down fromteh coffee but it helps determine what the headache is caused by

but why are you afraid of an asprin? :p

the headaches usually are at my temples and at the back of my head, like at the base of my skull. Sometimes, my vision will go blurry and my eyes will be extremely sensitive, i'll sometimes have a bit of pressure pain behind my eyes. It's lasted for about 2 days now, I've never gotten headaches before pretty much.
But there is a history of migraines in my family.
I'm just not a big fan of prescription *or* over the counter drugs, mostly because I also have major stomach problems and things like tylonel and ibuprofin really irritate it, just making me feel even worse.

    hello from another migrane sufferer~:(
are your migranes premenstrual? Mine are always, but I can get them up to once a week. If so, getting on BC may help out....I'm going to be doing that in two weeks when my health insurance kicks in so I guess I'll see how things go. Caffiene is sometimes used to treat migranes but it can also trigger them as well so be watchful of your caffiene intake.

caffeine can cause migraines, so you probably shouldn't down a bunch of coffee like someone mentioned earlier (no offense intended there)

sleeping can help if you can make yourself sleep. Eat something with lots of vitamins in it (protein or starch based, not sugar) to try and help your body work itself out.

Talk to your doctor about it and try to figure out what's causing them... I have a friend who gets migraines from caffeine, apples and peanuts. I've heard bananas can help, but that's more rumour than anything.

i dont know what this thing is called but my husband bought it for me at a flea market/craft show type of thing.... for my migraines....

its something that you put around your neck and it's scented with certain herbs that actually help migraines and dont bug you and make them worst... you can either heat it up in the microwave or freeze it in the freezer. it really helps me.

maybe you can look for something like that but sorry, i dont remember what it is called.

Think it could just be a tension headache?
I have a very dull achy pain..like at the base of my skull at the back and around my temples on either side. The pain just doesnt go away :(
I think i'll try something similar to what u were talking about interval_illusion..I think a cold compress may help that achy pain at the back of my head.

it could be a tension headache too. migraines and tension headaches can be very similar. i think have i use would work for both.

if you cant find anything, yeah a cold compress... and maybe a heating pad should help some too.

i hope you figure something out soon... take it from someone who gets them BAD.... they SUCK!!

That does sound like a tension headache...or maybe a cluster headache? I'm familiar with migraines, but not as familiar with the other types.

This site looks really good,it has information about the types of headaches and causes....http://www.headaches.org/

Sorry I can't be of more help :(

Ty. I went to the clinic today, the doctor thinks it's a migraine. (from hormones or something of the sort). He gave me some samples of some meds to try, but I don't know about that.. :S
I'm going to go to my family doctor on thursday, to see what he says, maybe they'll run some tests.
    Take care all.
