UGH. I cringe when I see that movie. I'm a huge fan of Bill's and grew up on ST. TMP was the worst ST film ever made, IMO. The other 5 in the series of the original cast however, are brilliant.
This first time I saw it I was like...this is kinda dumb and why is everyone dressed in pajamas. But after watching it a few more times and looking at the storyline...it actually began to fascinate me. A massive living machine created by a race of living machines to protect an alien life form that arrived on their planet so it could be sent back to find its creator. I don't know seemed kinda cool. The part I like the best is when they're travelling through the inner corridors of the ship and you can just imagine all the stuff thats going on beneath the surface of the massive vessel. The only bad part is its kinda slow paced, but I still think it has one of the better plots of the Star Trek series...and excellent imagery.
Just stop in and say hello! We'll give you a warm "welcome aboard". I'm "Tina" on there. I do enjoy TNG. Very well written with great characters. As for the others, I never got into them. I watched one or two episodes of "Enterprise" when it first came out and found it to be very slow. However, the powers that be are trying to come up with a story line to bring back Kirk on the show, so you bet I'll be sitting in front of the screen drooling over my hero.
Gene Roddenberry (sp) Mentioned at one time the Vger may had been re programmed by the Borg to gather information on new lifeforces to assimilate. They did this not to waste thier energy. It would have been a good tie in, but after he died no one went with it. There was also suppose to be a saucer seperation after a Klingon attack. They cut it b/c the movie was already way too long. PLUS the retrofit Enterprise was suppose to be used in an unfilmed ST series, but they opted for the movie instead. One thing that disturbed me about the film.... what the hell are those black "belt buckles" on their PJ's?
Actually the Borg tie-in has been used...and very well! William Shatner wrote "The Return" after his ill-timed death scene on "Generations". In his book he explains the Borg/Vger merge and...Captain Kirk is back in action!
