ok, im sure other people have noticed this.... but if you can use both your finger and pick on bass you might know what im talking about.... to anyone that has tried to play grooves like Phil Lesh or Mike Gordon.. is it just me, or is it pretty much hard as shit to be that precise and that accurate with that type of constant groove unless you are using a pick.... when I use my fingers even with all my tones and shit adjusted it still sounds way too jazzy
wow man, where are you from... im not a bass afficionado (guitar is more my bag) but you seem to be taking a really groovy approach with your instrument... and (ill relate this to guitar), when i play with just my fingers, th esound is not as great as when i play with a pick, yet i can do more shit...
for sure man, I wanna keep it going.... get people to shake thier bones and at the same time make great music.
yea, I am way more techincal with my fingers.... but im starting to realize that all that extra sound isnt really needed, its easier to communicate and weave in and out of the sound if I keep it a little simple.... I dunno hard to explain
I agree completely, man. I use a pick 98% of the time; it's just how I keep the groove. I find it much more interesting to improvise with a pick.
I do but I dont really like it...... I found a way to make a simular sound with the same type of rythm by doing a popping techique... it looks really funky but it works.... but all and all im not much of a slapper.. yet
ha...I've been using the same bass for 4 years now. It's a 4-string rouge. Not sure of the model. Hopefully xmas will bring me a new baby...I'm sticking with 4 string.
right on man, I play a 4-string Fender Jazz, phucking PHAT tone it makes chicks take their shit off... haha jk I wish
I rarely use a pick. I find that you get a better tone when you use your fingers. The only time I see it appropriate is when you're playing something thats real fast... like more than 1/16 notes. I can pump out 16ths with my fingers but not for too long.
I never use a pick to play... i should definitely give it a go sometime, esp. cos I want to play rock stuff and i need to make myself heard! right now i've been working on some popping technique and has been alright so far, i have come out with really groovy tunes...not much of a slapper (no pun intended hehehehe) but i'm sure that will come in time. right now i'm more concerned about the theory aspect of it all.
I fingerpick 99% of the time. I'm MUCH better and faster at it. When I do use a pick, I chicken pick, even with guitar. But slap bass owns you.
