I have a mature coconut, which I plan on hollowing out to make a chalice (Rasta Bong) and I want to maximize my use of the water and meat. With the exception of Coconut Rice, which uses coconut milk, a flesh byproduct, I have no clue what to do with it. Suggestions?
I know I'm late, but...make macaroons! I'll give you a good recipe if you tell me how to make that chalice
OK, you need a mature water coconut (brown, hairy, makes good sloshing noises when shook), a 1/2 inch diameter hose about a foot long, a metal downstem(see a headshop), and a bowl, traditionally a Kochie or huge wooden bowl, can be made outa anything, I use a liberty bowl. Drill three holes: One in the top for the stem, one behind that a bit for the hose, and one on the opposite side for the choke/carb. Clean out ALL of the coconut meat through the holes, as it will wreck the chalice if it is left to go bad. Once its clean, insert stem, attach bowl, insert hose and cut to fit, and seal with wax or what have you as needed. The downstem must of course reach the water (it is a bong) while the hose does not. The hose must be 1/2 inch wide, thats the secret, it rifles and cools a massive amount of smoke before it reaches you, thus allowing you to fill your lungs to new levels with little or no problems. Prepare to get fried! Check out Vol. 5 Iss. 3 of Heads, the Bob Marley issue, for the same thing only better written. That about cover everything?
That's amazing! Can't wait to try it. I'm assuming the hose can just be a plain rubber hose, then. But anyway...Macaroons. You'll need 1.5 cups of coconut, 1/3 cup sugar, 3 tbs cocoa powder, 2 tbs flour, 1/8 tsp salt, 1 tbs corn syrup (I like the light myself, makes a better color and accordingly "ligher" flavor), 1 tsp vanilla (mad important), and 2 egg whites. Preheat the oven to 325 and mix coconut, sugar, cocoa, flour, and salt. In a separate bowl mix the corn syrup and the vanilla. Then you mix both the bowls together with the egg whites till the mixture barely seems moist. I'm not sure why you can't just mix them all at once, but my mom always said I can't, so I haven't risked it. --" Get a cookie sheet and put a piece of foil down on it, then use a tablespoon or better yet a small ice cream scoop to place little mounds of the mixture on the sheet. You should get around 15 of them. Then put it in the oven and bake till they set...usually takes 15-20 minutes. They're awesome lil snackies and I hope you enjoy them (as I intend to enjoy that chalice )
The hose i used is clear plastic, like the kind hospitals use, i found it at a hardware store. In any case, as long as the size is on, it should work. And thank you, I can't wait to bite into these macaroons!
