Of course it will go cold, shaggie. Just the irrelevant death of one more expendable member of the herd to the real terrorists in our midst. You'll recognise them for their daily talking points, steadily increasing budget allocations and assurances that they are protecting us all from the great shadowy foreign menace, even as they strip us of our rights and liberties and turn us into criminals for daring so much as to speak out against them.

The tyranny itself is just getting warmed up.

What do you mean by going cold? I see featured stories on every major UK newspaper's website today. I still see it on the television news. Is this "going cold"?

Actually, main stream media wise, it has gone rather cold. (Here that is)

"Brazilian shot by police 'running late for work'
    11:00 AEST Mon Jul 25 2005
    AFP

SAO PAULO - The Brazilian electrician mistakenly killed by British plainclothes police may have run from them because he was afraid they were hoodlums, or simply because he was late for work, his friends told Brazilian newspapers in articles published Sunday.

Jean Charles de Menezes, 27, was shot dead Friday in a subway train after being chased by police through Stockwell Underground station in south London.

Gesio de Avila, a co-worker, said Menezes had called him when he entered the station to tell him he would be a little late for work. The two were to install a fire alarm in a building in northwest London, Avila said.

"If he ran, it was simply because he was late," Avila told O Estado de Sao Paulo from London.

Menezes' family earlier said he was on his way to work when he was killed.

Fausto Soares, who lives in London and was a friend of the victim, told O Globo newspaper that Menezes probably ran away from the plainclothes officers because he thought they were attackers. "

He was already at the station when he called to his workplace. That tells me he wasn't being chased down the street.

Maybe his jacket was part of his work. I often wear a jacket in the summer months just because of the pockets to hold things. I know how the guy must have felt. I got stopped in the U.S. by the police for 'walking too fast'.

I know there are at least a few here who are going to blame the shooting on his being late for work.

If O.J. Simpson ever travels the tube, he'll be shot dead in seconds, the way he runs through terminals. :)

It was just mentioned today that the police have taken down a suspect in the bombings WITH A STUN GUN. Gee, that makes sense, stun them, don't kill them. Stun them, don't kill them.......

Why was he running? The police obviously didn't have stun guns because the intent was to kill not immobilise.

I assume because he was late for work. He called his boss from the station to say he was going to be late. Another news article said all the police were in plain clothes running up to him when he was at the train. He probably didn't realize what was going on.

if they were in plainclothes, it's no wonder he ran. There's a lot of ill feeling towards middle eastern people in london these days. If i were him and some un-uniformed white man said 'hey, come 'ere" you can bet I'd hightail it out of there quick as I could.

I wish the police themselves would give more details about what happened. I guess they have to stay quiet to protect themselves legally.

So if you thought you were approaching someone wired with explosives, you would zap them with 50,000 volts of electricity?

Looks like the story really has gone cold. *crickets chirping*

But look at the bright side. One of the American cable news networks (you know who) was talking the other day about Scott Peterson and his new website. :)

Well so now a dark skineed man wearing a baggy coat is a potential terrorist? That seems to be the message the police are giving us. Sure the man ran, but he ran from ununiformed officers brandishing guns, who wouldnt do the same?

He was Brazilian. But I guess dark skin puts you on the profile as well.

I'd still would like to know why they didn't stop him along the street. They followed him all the way from his apartment and said they thought he was suspicious. I'd like to see some pics of the clothes he was wearing too, but I doubt we'll ever know.

Profiling can work to one's disadvantage. Terrorists can hire people who don't fit the profile to do the next job.

There was an old comedy spy TV show in the 60s called 'Get Smart'. In one episode there was a Kaos agent (bad guys) who always was in public in a wheel chair. So the good guys, the Control Agency, were looking for this guy in a wheel chair. It turned out he could walk and slipped right past all the Control agents.

Just some out of the box thinking.
