I started locking up my hair today with no wax or bands and i noticed that song of the dreads are prone to splitting, is this natural in the begining?

if you just back comb and dont twist or use any kinda hair products you end up with big fucking 80s hair like quiet riot =) i use some really good locking gel and make sure i wash it out so it doesnt rot...............................................

Dude, I'd go for the 80's hair just 'cause it looks sweet. And you'd end up with dreads anyway.

    Cool.

I use this stuff called rasta locks that I get at Sallys and it is a gel/wax kinda thing made from mango and hibisus. All natural and it smells super great. I hated 80s hair =) so I try to keep mine a little less huge =)

Let me just say mine are 3 1/2 months old and they appear to be coming apart in places, but if you seak inside the lock is begiinning to form it just looks all loose! Its cool! its like its hiding... well i think so, so you'll have loose loooking locks for aages ... but its all part of the process and its fun to watch em tighten! (well it is for me)
