Do you have the patch? the gum? I'm not a smoker but apparently those offer a little help with the cravings. Sorry I can't help you out more, it's great you're trying to quit though!

Change all of your habits. If you drink and smoke, then stay away from pubs. Switch from coffee or black tea to herbals or tisanes. Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate! Consume lots of fluids (particularly clear liquids or drinks with electrolytes). Satisfy oral cravings with crudites such as celery or carrots. Take walks. Wash your hands and face frequently. Brush frequently. Lick fresh peppermint. Eat fruits. There's no end to good advice. Want more? P.M. me :)

It's called Zyban if prescribed for smoking cessation, but really it's called Wellbutrin, an anti-depressant. It also has stimulant properties, like everything else you have to be committed to stopping and in the right and ideal frame of mind. I tried Zyban, made me a bit manic, couldnt sleep, felt like hell. I've also also tried the patch years ago - LOOOOOOOOOOOOL, enuff said adout that. Hypnotherapy costed me a fortune LAUGH OUT LOUD LOUDER!! I'm not in the right frame of mind though, too much work stress. My chiropractor (and others) swear by accupucture, boast one treatment does it all. That's my next attempt. Good luck sweetie!;)

Yeah, I tried Zyban once too... and it made me a mess! I was all over the emotional radar... crying one minute, laughing the next. I also couldn't think clearly. I think part of the problem with me is that I have some mental probs and pre-existing drug reliance probs... so the Zyban was screwing with both of them. I lasted in it for a month. I took the pill and continued smoking for 2 weeks, then quit smoking and continued with the pill for 2 weeks after that. But, as soon as I quit the pill I started smoking again.

Know what did work? For me, at least? I locked myself in my house for 3 days. Stocked up on good books and movies. Drank a lot of water. Placed rubber bands around my wrists to snap when it got too bad. Took lots of showers... slept a lot. Dumped all my coffee in the garbage... and walked away from painting.. as coffee, cigs and painting all go together. Threw out all the ashtrays, lighters, matches. Cleaned the house so it didn't smell like cigs. Washed the walls... kept myself really busy.

That was 6 months ago. I haven't had a single drag. I can drink coffee without wanting a cig!

Good luck Ashers! You will feel a lot better if you do quit. Keep telling yourself that if you can go 72 hours, the physical addiction is broken and only the mental addiction is left.

Zyban really helped my mate kick the habit, been quit three yrs now after being on 40 a day :)

I reckon the biggest rule is to never let yourself get bored....get bored and the mind starts to wander, and pretty soon yer thinking about a smoke....

The anitoxicants in cranberry juice are supposed help against withdrawel, but I reckon yer just have to sweat it out.

Indeed, it wasn't until I tried to quit (and failed) that I realised how much a part of me everyday routine cigs were a part of. Everything from the compulsion to light up whenever I brewed coffee....to that hellhole hour when yer first wake up and do nowt but smoke and try to remember wot yer name is...sheesh.

Good luck dude, stick with it, yer body will love yer for it one day :sunglasse

Oh I forgot to mention, in the bad old margarine days, in retrospect I also had a mild case of bi-polar.

when you go out, hold a flower or a joint between your fingers instead of a cigarette

I quit for a good month or so a while ago. I tried the patch, but it made me ill. So I just tried keeping myself occupied and without any stress. I actually always held a flower in my mouth and sucked on it, it helped alot. I also ate alot, had something with me to munchie on all the time whenever I got cravings. It wasn't that bad... but when life got fairly stressful again, I started smoking.
