I am from Bulgaria and I'd like to know more about other countries and cultures. I read a lot for different places but I'm wondering if the people have information about my country. So, friends, what do you know about Bulgaria? And also about which country and people you'd like to know more
OK guys I'll give you more information Bulgaria is one from the oldest countries in Europe. It was created in 7th century . The inverntor of the first computer was the bulgarian John Atanasoff. We are smart and enterprising nation, with nice women, testy food and beautiful nature.
I have a very good friend from Bulgaria. I will always remember her. I am also aware of who Georgi Mikhailov Dimitrov was, and I read a book of his. And your capital is Sofia, which also is the largest city in Bulgaria, is that right? Other than that, I do not know much of Bulgaria.
I went to Sofia once in 1989. There was a Jewish synagogue there. And there was also a family of gypsies at the train station. They use the same alphabet as the Russians (with a few variations), they have their own Orthodox church http://www.answers.com/topic/bulgarian-orthodox-church and they make a yogurt that tastes like no other yogurt in the world. Their men are the best lovers in the world and their racing pigeons are the fastest. Need more info? Ask away!
Yes I am familiar with Bulgarian history at least. The exploits of Krum, Boris, and the Asens for example, or the treaties of Kutchuk Kainarji and San Stefano. I'm a bit fuzzy on the communist period though. All I know about is that Bulgaria was the USSR's most loyal satellite. (No offense intended, there were certainly decent reasons for it.)
You are all great You know very interesting facts about Bulgaria! King Krum (803-814) killed in a war the emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire - Nikifor I Genik - and he made a cup with silver incrustations from his skull. I think we have many great kings, like Tervel who broke the Arabian army in the begining of 8th century and stop the Islamic invasion in Europe. About the synagogue, also I can say that in the WWII the bulgarian people saved the life of over 50 000 bulgarian jews! We didn't give them to Hitler's camps! Georgi Dimitrov was famous bulgarian communist and anti-nazi. In the 1930s the nazis accused him about the incendiarism of the German parlament, but after good defence he won the proceedings at law. Later he was a president of the Communist International. But he lived too long in Russia and there he learned to drink too much vodka. And we were realy very close with the USSR, even in the 60s the communists wanted to transform Bulgaria into 16th Soviet Republic. Thank you, God, we survived
