I have sold a few paintings on ebay but I am trying to come up with something to sew and sell. We were in the fabric area of a store the other day and I bought a nice pattern for a fleece poncho, then I saw some pretty cool tye dyed and swirly and another pattern of cool butterflys all on fleece. It was almost 8.00 a yard and the pattern takes anywhere from 1 and 3/4 yards to about 2 and a hlf for larger sizes..... The poncho is of simple construction, and the raw edges are left unhemmed as it is fleece with a simple zig zag for the edges. So my question is....would you buy and wear a poncho out of fleece (kinda blanket material) for about 45.00 -50.00 if it was tye dye, or swirly colors??? My husband said to go ahead and buy the material but I wanted a bit of feedback first, I guess I will buy it anyway 'cause the worst thing that could happen is I would end up with a cool poncho, but what do you think??? thanks for any input, teepi
I thought the whole purpose of a poncho is to keep rain off you and because they are light. I'd think fleece would get kinda heavy when wet, well itisn't even waterproof...but go for it! I'd wear it!
I wear a fleece poncho like cover all winter. I don't own a winter coat. On really cold days I wear one that is a double layer of fleece. I need something that is lighter weight and/or waterproof. But I'm sure I'll find something to make for myself soon. If I didn't sew I would pay that much for one. The fabric is expensive. Kathi
Hey there- a lady my mom works with was selling fleece ponchos and shrugs (no-front sweatshirts) for $40 or so at the company crafts fairs they had in their lunchroom. She did quite well on em, so if you're in a chilly part of the country you should do well. Maybe some plain solid color ones too, for people who need something to wear at their desk jobs? My mommy answers phones all day, and at her office lots of people were sitting there in the winter with blankets, but then they bought ponchos. Have fun- Allis
Fifty dollars, is that about twenty five pounds?(I'm English!) Well over here that would be considered cheap for something hand crafted and a bit unusual. I don't know if I would want to buy it myself as I dislike the feel of fleece fabric, but I know that I am unusual in that ,as fleece is light and warm and most people seem to really like it. I'd say go for it, as there isn't a negative side to it that I can see ,as you say you may just end up with a cool poncho for yourself
Thank you all so much, you have really boosted my confidence!!! I will make one and stick a pic on here. Thank you, teepi
