There seems to be an assumption here that people can only commit terrorist acts for good reasons (except the West, which apparently commits terrorist acts because it is evil, or controlled by jews etc etc).

Why do we assume that terrorists only commit acts of terrorism because they are upset about things WE can sympathise with? Isn't this projecting our values onto them? And even worse, projecting solutions based on what we assume they want?

Lets look at Osama bin Laden. Millionaire Saudi who went to Afghanistan to support/take refuge with the Taliban. He wasn't poor or oppressed. And what did he do with his money and freedom? He and other foreigners helped the Taliban wage war on ethnic minorities opposed to Taliban rule. The Taliban, meanwhile, executed women in full burquas in the middle of football stadiums, destroyed ancient buddhas, and presided over mass famine. It was by any standard among the most brutal, inept, destructive regimes on the planet. Meanwhile the US was, at the time, the largest provider of Humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. But who did Osama bin Laden attack? Not the Taliban. The US.

So we're supposed to believe that terrorists care about justice?

Stop projecting YOUR values onto people who behead aid workers and bomb electoral polling stations!

Ok, so someone posted something about "overthrowing 1st world governments." To which I said, that if we do that then we're really "in the shit." So, now you want me to define "WE" ? Meaning, WHO is the WE that will be IN THE SHIT. Is this right?

OK, the WE that will be in the shit is YOU and I, dear boy. Let's say we "overthrow" the USA, the UK, and the rest of the European Union. Be gone, evil ones! Then what? Will the world be a better place?

Will the terrorists lay down their weapons and hold hands now that these evil 1st world governments aren't terrorizing them anymore? Will African children get off their lazy feet and make their own food, now that evil 1st world governments aren't there feeding them? The Cubans and the Haitians will really be in the shit because they can't take their boats to an evil 1st world government anymore. And all these free-lovin' 17-year-old hippies on these forums will be crying their eyes out because their iPods will stop working, their laptops won't crank up, their txt msgs will go nowhere, because those evil 1st-world government satellites will have stopped working as well.

I do NOT agree with the war in Iraq. Bushie was a dummy for going there. I also do not think we can exit out of Iraq right now---we have to stick it out. I DO BELIEVE in the war on terrorism. And I am very aware that 1st world goverments (USA, UK and EU) have had their hands in "spreading" terrorism. Yes, we're partly to blame for the mess we're in.

But I just laugh my ass of when I hear young idealistic teenagers (not saying YOU are a teenager) cry about the evil 1st world regimes, all the while driving evil 1st world government automobiles; using iPods and downloading music on the evil 1st world government Internet; smoking pot in their room which is located in upstate NY in some evil 1st world government town; and using pretty much this technology that has never been available before for anyone on this planet and then totally dissing the evil 1st world government that has been instrumental in developing this technology.

I'm not sure if I answered yours or anyone elses question here, but goddamnit it felt good to get this off my chest.
