almost everything is the same all of the elements are made up of the smae basic parts, everyone knows this, it's basic knowledge, and all compounds are made up of the elements, so all matter is made up of the same stuff, electrons, protons, and neutrons and from what I understand electrons, protons and neutrons are all made of the same 6 quarks just configured differently, so we have an even more basic set of building block all matter is made of 6 quarks in different formations or whatever now that's not all, particle radiations are made up of protons and things so alpha and beta radiation are made up of quarks too. now we have everything else, gamma radiation, gamma radiation all of the specrtum from em to microwaves and beyond in each direction, gamma radiation is energy....... so it's either quarks, or gamma radiation....... and there were some really smart bastards long before my time who figured out how they interacted w\ math and I have only a passing comprehension of most of those equations, but one of them says something elegantly simple e=mc(2) {I'm not hunting for the ascii} energy (that gamma stuff) = mass (those quarks) * the speed of light (c) squared....... i.e. there is a lot of energy in a chunk of matter that's why when you unleash that energy you get a devastating amount of energy atom bombs were our first ineffiecient primitave grasp at that..... there are a few things I'm not 100% sure about in there but it's more or less accurate.....
I tried, I failed, cannot explain classical music in that same way, I'm just not awake enough to pull up all of my musical theory software
Any other genres...? I think the easiest to explain would be blues, jazz, and older rock & roll stuff (ie: chuck berry, fats domino, little richard), as it's far more modern and there's more information at your fingertips. I read every book I could find, on classical, by the time I was 10 or 11, some of them three or four times... especially this old one on Johann Sebastian Bach, from the 60s or 70s, but I can't remember the title of it. It was destroyed in a fire at my town's library, I believe... I can hardly remember a damn thing on classical history/theory, now. All I can remember is Bach's official title was Court Kappelmeister... I can't remember where the hell he was at the time. I remember always watching videos on him when I was six or seven. Then there was some story about someone dropping fish or fish heads... or throwing them at him, at a hotel somewhere, when he was traveling around Germany, then he found gold coins in them or something (wtf) and checked into the hotel and stayed there...
well the reason to start w\ classical would be because all structured music is at least on some level based on it, w\ baroque all non structured music has some influence from it or some parallel (this is speaking strictly of WESTERN music) they are just the easiest because of their progeniter status, I'm going to draw a picture of a keyboard and then I might be able to do this, it's the holding it in my head and typing it up and dredging up that damned circle of whatever it's called w\ all the key signitures all at once that's really killing me.....
Circle of fifths. http://users2.ev1.net/~charliehb/Chavez/MathInMusic/Circle%20of%20Fifths.GIF I don't read music (mainly because I've tried to stray away from learning because I've always been scared that it would fuck up my natural tone), the circle of fifths is about as far as I go when it comes to theory. Maybe I should just go ahead and start learning it now and try to control it...
part 1 structure there is structured you have written music which begins with a staff, a staff is 5 lines one above the other evenly spaced, this is of course the beginning, you then add the clef, the clef is to the staff as the compass rose is to the map, it tells you what the points in the staff really mean after the clef are two important numbers, they are the time signature, one over the other, the top one tells you how mant beats per measure, the bottom number tells you what sort of not is the beat be it a whole note, quarter note, half, sixteenth or eigth, an example of common time signatures would be 4\4 that is one of the most common ones, it means that you have 4 beats per measure and a quarter note counts as a beat 2\4 is a common marching beat, but rare for well adjusted people so we'll skip that 3\4 is a waltz beat, it means that the quarter note gets the beat, and there are 3 beats per measure the time signature is very important for arranging music, writing it, playing it, and phrasing it (uber important) next is the key signature, now how common this is will depend upon wholly on what instrument you play, a flautist will see totally different key signatures on a regular basis than a clarinet, there will be flats (#) sharps (b's with attitude) and naturals if you are partway through a song and getting a change (like a sharp w\ most of the limbs cut off) this means to play every note that is not marked otherwist as it is marked in the key signature
thanks for the circle of fifths..... now I need to get on to notes, measures, accents, tremolo, gliss' and fermatas
Music is so damn... I don't know. You can do everything with it... from making people cry to expressing mathematical theories. I just realized it's another dimension... and it's as simple as vibration. Even our vocal chords... everything seems to be based around it and I haven't met anyone who doesn't like it or hasn't heard a song that they liked... It doesn't care who you are or what political party you belong to, how rich or poor you are. (Which is one part of what I was getting at) Music has never caused a war... though it has caused a few people to die (though not the fault of music, itself, but the fault of greed/jealousy, as I said, not accepting things for the way they are... which is merely a survival skill that has become rather mutated), from Dimebag Darell Abbott to Selena... John Lennon. I'm hesitant to say Robert Johnson, since he died because of the jealous lover... etc, but I suppose that was somewhat related to his musical ability.
part 2 classical and fixed music Another key component of the staff is the measure (as mentioned in time signature) a measure is the organizational tool of the music, they breaks it up into phrases, sentences, clauses ,and such a measure's length is defined by the time signature and in classical music has to strictly follow the design of the time signature, in 4\4 your measure rythms include (but are not wholly limited to) a whole note, 2 half notes, a half and a quarters, a half and a half rest, 4 quarters, any mix of quarters and quarter rests up to 4, 3 quarters and 2 eighths, 3 quarters and a triplet, etc. there are many many more so even in classical music there an almost infinite quantity of combinations before you even conscider pitch, Pitch is the sound of the note, the tone, the well, pitch, how high or low it is, in western music you have notes a-g and sharps and flats in western music in relation to pitch you have half steps (1 fret usually), and whole steps (2 usually) not all natural notes (notes that have set letter names, abcdefg) are a whole step away from each other, this is the reason that on a keyboard there are not "black keys" between every "white key" for instance b sharp is c however c sharp is d flat (these alternate names are called enharmonics)
notes are written on the staff to define their pitch, their poistion and the clef showing their pitch (since there are more clefs than I know and I'm awful with bass I'l just stick w\ treble) on the lines from the bottom to top are e,g,b,d,f in the spaces (bottom to top) f,a,c,e if you mesh them together of course you realise that the notes are from bottom to top, e,f,g,a,b,c,d,e,f this is how the staff works, the clef just tells you where the lines happen to be in the whole system of things if there is anything I've missed please tell me, I don't mean to write everything there is about music theory that I know but it would be nice to have everything that is nescescary for someone to start reading music and playing grade 1-2 music......
orsino if you realized this about effective vibrations, how come your not listening to Awaken by YES? Thats what the whole damn song is about, just told poetically.
im not sayin your life has to, im just sayin that those musicians have accomplished gaining a state of mind that very few readily available musicains have.
Absolute rubbish. You just can't say that everything is the same because it's made of the same basic components. To be able to do that you'd have to be able to comprehend the idea of one quark or one lepton on its own. It's the same with the arts. You create things with the building blocks you are given. It's all in how you use them. I can't believe anyone's even considering this.
