they were good, odd lyrics, and blantenly gay in a somewhat intolerent time, but still made it, gotta respect that
They're ace. Saw them live on 2 occasions and they were just excellent. Going to a Ray Davies concert in October.
i totally dig the kinks, although i've been trying to find a way to get their song 'picture book' for about a year and still haven't found it anywhere.
Took me 5 seconds to find it. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000002KOI/102-8379811-1721709?v=glance
Umm.. I don't think I've ever heard anything about a member of The Kinks being gay.. Oh, and "Picture Book" is from Village Green Preservation Society. Check it out, along with its predecessor Something Else and the following Arthur. Very Brit-pop, very Victorian. Trippy in that it creates its own little world through these perfect pop songs.
Perfect pop is exactly right, they were pop heaven..especially songs like Waterloo Sunset etc. I like them more than the Beatles, but no one agrees with me.
Dont the Kinks have like 400 songs? There is a Village Green Boulevard here. Its so cool. I want to live there.
'Waterloo Sunset' is one of the most beautiful songs I ever heard. I like that they can do fun dance songs like ' Come Dancing', and 'You Really Got Me', and more artsy songs, like 'Picture Book' and 'Waterloo Sunset'
