Dear Americans, You have yet to surprise me. You disgust me with your lazy ways. Taking advantage of everything you have. America? What a country...! 1 out of 4 Americans walk into a fastfood restaurant everyday. Filling your bodies with fats and oils. People will sit in the drive-thru behind 5 cars before they get up and walk inside to a totally empty counter. Man, I cannot believe our country. Just sitting around, only leaving your house for the McDonalds. On the couch, gobblin down chucks of soyburgers. Disgusting! That makes me sick. People tell others, "Why do you smoke? Killing yourself?" America...ask yourselves this: Why do you eat so much? Why are you so fucking obese? You are doing this to youselfs. Doctors say that obesity is in the genes. Bullshit, it comes from all these fat parents shoveling food down their throats for the kids to get the habit of eating everytime the parent does. It's not the genes, it's the parents....taking their children out to the Burger King, spoiling them with a double cheeseburger and a chance to play on the playground. Hmm...try some vegetables and a swing set. All these kids, like 7 years old and 120 odd lb. ??!!?? WTF? ...think about this... And the war...i'm not even going there tonight.
This thread only proves your own ignorance. Only stupid, ignorant people generalize the way you do. Tell me, what good is generalizing all Americans as one? It's no different than saying that all black people are criminals. The way I see it, most people are dumb and uninformed, regardless of where they're from. Stop criticising Americans and start looking to the reasons they are the way they are. Until then, you're not helping anything. Why do you defend smokers, while criticising fat people? Smoking and obesity are equally unhealthy!
I am not critizing smokers. I am not defending them either. I agree with you; smoking is just as bad as obesity. People seem to focus on smokers more so than obese people. Telling them constantly that they need to quit. Almost everytime you go to the doctor, they ask you if you smoke...if you say yes they give you this drawn out lecture. It sounds to me like you are a little racist there, huh? So, about that you should get your facts straight and think about what you are reading. I am just letting the world know about the epidemic sweeping America. And here we are, just letting it happen...continuing to do this to ourselves. We all have a freedom of speech. So, therefore I will speak mine...and you speak your's...
Only a very conditioned, overtly PC person would interpret what I said as being "racist." Is it racist to say that most violent crimes are committed by blacks? No, it's simply a fact. Just like it's a fact to say America is the most obese country in the world, which it is. However, that doesn't make it right to say all Americans are fat and stupid, just like it isn't right to say all black people are criminals. Racism is genralization, as generalization is attacking all Americans as being fat and stupid.
First of all, I never said that Americans were stupid. And I am not judging all Americans. Just over half of the country is on the obesity scale. I mean, it's obvious how damaging it is to your body. More people that practically live off of fastfood have more surgeries. This is being seen far and wide. More and more people are becoming more conscience over this issue.
Wow you are really biting off a big chunk there yourself. Aren't there more upsetting things in the world than overweight people? American obesity doesn't really affect you except in the most indirect of ways. Being fat isn't good for you but it sure is a lot better than what those people in Niger are going through. And don't discount genes entirely either, who we turn out to be is ALWAYS a combination of environment and heredity. Many overweight people don't eat at McDonald's every day, just as many McDonald's patron's are quite skinny. And have you ever considered that overeating isn't just pure gluttony, but perhaps an attempt to medicate psychological problems? Humans are evolved to make thrifty use of calories, and to consume as many as are available in preparation for leaner times. Some people make the adjustment to the abundance of food in America and some don't, but this isn't a specifically American trait as any population would and has responded in a similar matter amid such abundance. It sounds more like it is the abundance itself you are angry at. Sure you could make plenty of good moral arguments for dismantling industrial civilization, but most people in the world are selfish and would disagree. While it may sometimes be in poor taste, people want delicious food to be available to them. Again, that isn't American, that is human. Ask someone who has subsisted on a lifetime of rice and beans if they wouldn't want cheeseburger. People deserve the right to choose what they are able to spend their money on, even if that is unfortunately the only real choice they have. Anything else is legislating morality and we all know how well that turns out. I'm not saying this isn't a problem in America, but it is up to the individual to remedy it. When you force people to change they resist. Some people might see this as acceptable when pursuing something like communist revolution, but it just isn't worth it over what amounts to a mere side affect of capitalism. Regardless of the argument's merits (and I don't mean just you here, this is a fairly common complaint) I suspect much of its impetus is really jealousy that so many Americans have so much food and don't have to perform manual labor to survive. Perhaps you should consider whether you have been influenced by American culture's pathological obsession with body image? The self hatred these kinds of comments engender is more hazardous to health in my opinion.
Come on, I could really give a fuck less about my personal appearance to the general public. I go out and I dont care how I am viewed. I am not basing this thread on no particular person, simply putting my thoughts to use on this "protest" board. If you dont like it, I am sorry for that. Goes for everyone jumping my case over this shit. I mean, damn...you yourself could look at this and be like....well yea she is kinda right. You read in the papers, or see on the news about obesity everyday. And still you put none of it thought? I am tired of not saying nothing about it and I believe that opinions are like assholes...everyones got one. It's just unlike me to not spread my opinions.... **moons everyone
I don't think we are jumping on your case anymore than you are jumping on ours. After all, you did say we 'disgust' you.
I like the americans..(not many canadians do..) i used to live in NC. In many cases priorities and ideals are distorted for a good number of people, but nevertheless the majority of people I met came across as being very nice and humane.
I've lived here my life long, and I've found American society to be morbidly charming. As for obesity, I don't think a whole lot about another person's heath choices, whether they be smoking, over-eating or emotional eating, or what have you. It isn't good for you, but it's also none of my damn business.
I weight 130 pounds and i am 6'1 so i don't want to hear you shit about obesity. You look pretty chubby in that picture yourself.
Cmon she's a beautiful young woman. Not chubby, just healthily fed, which is what most guys I know like.
according to docs chart I'm slightly obese to...big dealBut thats why ya ain't gonna see anything but head shots of me in here...my buffalo butt & flat tire around the middle would bust the screen
For all the soapboxing, it always comes down to individuals. the best way to judge the average is to look at the people around you. if you belive the machine then you have to believe that most people saported this conflict in iraq, and it is just a strange twist of fate that almost everyone you know, and almost every on they know thinks its wrong . ignore the media, it is biased
I think you are probaly too hard on yourself squakers, skinny woman are way overrated and not as popular as you might think ( I was gonna quote you but your avatar got in the way)
to hard on myself....I was stating a fact about being obese "according to Dr's chart" and according to what I see in the shower I have a bigger flat tire around the middle then most cars get. I have nothing against the pics I posted earlier (course the lower part of body ain't in them & without them you really have no idea how big I am from the waist down.) But thanx tho...and whats wrong with the avatar?
As a practicing vegetarian I can say it's odd living a lifestyle not defined by the 'norm'. Not once have I gotten in anyones face about it but the mere mention of it will drive some people into a tizzy about their 'rights' and who am I to tell them what to do, when in fact I never told them what to do. The nutritional landscape in this country, in general, is quite pathetic. As pointed out though I don't really think it should be put in the hands of legislators. We've tried that and it doesn't work. On the one hand they will be a proponent for cartoons who talk about spinach while at the same time appearing on the sides of junkfood cartons, on one hand proclaiming 'self-regulation' while at the same time vehemently opposing school nutrional reform,... the list goes on as to the balancing act. Many attempts have been made at legislating against marketing to children and it went nowhere. The boards etc.. are all made up of the industry giants so in the end they'll protect their profit margin. In the end we shouldn't have to use government anyway (imho) to achieve those ends. As pointed out it should be the parents who take the responsibility of educating themselves and their children. It should be the parents who think about plopping their kid down in front of the tube unmonitored to recieve the marketing. The cycle only gets worse as those children will one day be parents.
obesity is a major problem in many western countries, not just america. Why single out america? Is it America that is making these other countries fat?
