Has anyone else noticed how many people, especially teenagers these days claim to like Led Zeppelin just because they like a few songs? Especially Kashmir, which is one of the only Led Zeppelin songs I hear on the radio anymore. I guess because it's so catchy, but I'm absolutely sick to death of that song. I would be fine with never hearing it again. I guess I'm just pissed because, at lest around where I live, it's becoming "cool" to like Led Zeppelin but only know a few songs, nameably Kashmir, Rock and Roll, Stairway to Heaven, or Whole Lotta Love, but not know shit about the band. All these "Zeppelinheads" that I see running around don't even know who John Paul Jones or John Bonham are, own no more Zeppelin albums then two (early days and Latter Days), and wear their "United States: 1977" t-shirts as if they were even alive in 1977 or as if they actually would've enjoyed half hour versions of Dazed and Confused or covers of Old Rock and Roll songs, which I doubt they would've anyway. To all you "Led Zeppelin" kids: Do not say Led Zeppelin is your "favorite Rock band" without buying the albums and listening to the folksy/blues-y songs that as well as the radio hits. I know modern music sucks, so you're welcome to the old stuff, but give it the proper respect that it deserves. If anyone agrees with me or even knows what I'm talking about, feel free to add to it.
Oh don't sweat it so much. That's been going on for years and years. It happens with all types of bands and all types of music. Kids want to fit in,and also..they start out listening to whatever their friends listen to or whatever is popularized by the radio. They'll grow into the music or grow out of it...which ever comes first. Just be glad you're one of the few that knows about the real soul of the music.
Yeah, dude, it's annoying as hell. I listen to a little Zep, but who doesn't? It's a fad. Two years from now they'll forget about Zeppelin and move onto the next big thing.
Hmm, I'd have to say Kashmir is one of my favorites and unique because it's in DADGAD tuning, but not many people really bother with the details, like that. Eh, I'm not obsessed with Zep or anything, I like them, but there's other bands with way more to offer, some of them existing right now.
It doesn't bother me all that much. I'm just glad another generation is being exposed to the great music of Led Zeppelin. Maybe the few songs they are listening to will grow on them and they will expand their collection to more albums.
Damn right. I hate the Fad Zep people. And then when poeple accuse me of conforming because everyone else is being like that. Ive listened to the whole box set through like 8 times, read Stairway To Heaven and Hammer Of The Gods and watched The Led Zeppelin DVD approximately 15 times, they aint got nuthin on me.
I'm a fan of Zeppelin's and I own enough material to justify that! My dad had the box set which included the 30 minute version of Dazed and Confused and a couple of epic performances, but he sold it because the sound quality was terrible. Funny stroy about that 1977 t-shirt, someone at my college was wearing it and my friend asked "cool t-shirt, do you like them?", the guy replied "who?" I think my friend then explained who they were. I've had a hoodie version of that for a while, but they sell it in fucking Top Shop now! Ah well...........
I personally dont care...though it's good to know that kids today find led zeppelin cool. maybe not for the right reasons but what the heck. "oh yeah that guy led zeppelin was so cool, he played the guitar with a violin bow...how cool is that?" "oh yeah that song stairway to heaven is satanic, have you listened to it backwards?" (real comments i've heard from younger fans - bless them)
i personally dont care.... you can be a fan of someone without having to know every little thing about them... and i find it pretty sad that you guys are ripping on them because you concider yourself to be uber-zep fans... big freakin fuckin woop de doo... ya dont need to know every damn song about some band to appreciate their music and be a fan of them... so why dont you just let'em be and go back to your life instead of worrying and whining about other peoples
I see the same thing im 16 and I know some people that are well fake fans but me and my friends own every zeppelin album so we have something on them lol. It happens with all bands i just wish the Grateful Dead would become popular or maybe the Who.....................
The post "Zeppelin fan bitching about other "Zeppelin fans" is very interesting. I agree with the basic affirmation but also I have some notes: First - I am fan of Led Zep since 1990. I was 13-years old boy and I started in the same why with only few songs. The first stuff I heard was Remasters 1&2. Second - I think it's normal that the young boys start to listen Led Zep with only three ot four songs. Don't forget - in this age the kids are trying to be someone or something and they imitate other persons. They want to be interesting. Of course they have t-shirts like 1977, because this means "Hey look who I am!!!". This is pretty normal for this age! And pleace, admit that is better if the kids imitate the old Led Zep fans, but not some stupid modern band! Third - if the kids are really impressed from Led Zeppelin, they'll start to look for all songd and albums of the band. Then we'll know who's a real fan and who is just a temporary imitator! For the moment I think we must be patronizing to these kids and let try to help them! Then maybe they'll realy understand the magic of the Zeps....
well I started just hearing black dog and stairway to heaven but then i got really into it and have heard most of there albums and I own a few too. Its funny how whole lotta love is popular. I think there are a LOT of better songs on led zeppelin 2. A lot of there live stuff is awesome on BBC sessions there is a pretty long version of dazed and confused. but hey why dont you just show these kids a little more zeppelin instead of scoffing at there lack of knowledge?
im a pretty obsessive fan, but i dont get mad at others. Theres to much to zeppelin to know everything. But no one has shit on me ;]
The main thing I don't like about Zep is that, even though other bands were doing Blues covers, Zep would take songs and not give credit, moreso than others.
why do you care if people are posers?! Just know who you are and let others do their thing, even if you don't think they are a "true" fan.
Well, being 17 and having what I consider pretty good taste in music I think I should defend myself some here. I bought my fist Zepplin shirt yesterday. I'm not a huge fan of them (I consider them one of my favorites but not like the Dead or Dylan) but I do own all of their albums, and do listen to them often. Now I have a rule that before I wear clothing with a band name on it or something, that I know the band pretty well. Seeing my peers who have no taste at all in music wear Zepplin shirts, and especialy Floyd around here, makes me mad. This whole music thing started last year when a friend of mine got a Dark Side of the Moon Shirt. Now he was a huge fan of Floyd so I don't care. But now everyone has that shirt. That's the only thing that bothers me. It's like pretending to be music literate...Anyways that was just kind of a rambling but personally I think if you don't like the music, why buy the shirt?
I can't tell you the exact year or age I was when I started listening to Zeppelin, but I remember it was in the late 70's, I was a pre-teen, and my aunt and uncle gave me IV on a 8 Track. I nearly wore it out listening to it over and over. Stairway To Heaven was one of my favorites but I also loved Black Dog, Misty Mountain Hop, and When The Levee Breaks. I still didn't consider myself a fan until my later teen years, after I had gotten my hands on II, III, and Houses of the Holy. By the time I was 19 I owned every album. Even owned a couple of T-Shirts too.
i dont get mad at people for their music tastes and if they only listen to the hits. i am a big fan of zep though. I have been listening to them since i was a kid, like 8 or 9. That is because my dad is a huge zep head and he was always listening to them and so basically i was too and i liked them even though i didnt really understand them when i was young. but it really doesnt matter how long anyone has been into the music just aslong as people are listening to it. I love the older zeppelin personly, the first album is great. i like almost all the music they have ever put out. And i try to turn people on to zeppelin and other great music that came out in the 60's and 70's. But its ok to listen to the hits at first, if they like it they will continue on with it. Just dont listen to the radio anymore, i dont, then you will appreciate music more cause you wont here the same music over and over again. And then all the "hits" wont seem like hits cause you wont here them 5 times a day. It should be all about the music, not which songs are the most popular and who is listening to what.
