http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/08/03/ohio.marines.ap/index.html The resentment about these losses will grow. It took many years for it to grow about Viet Nam but it eventually surfaced. It's when small towns get hit with heavy losses that the people start getting upset. .
That one town in Ohio just lost 20 something Marine Reservists in under 10 days. 14 the other day and 7 the previous week. If anyone has accurate figures then please correct me.Hmmm..... I wonder who the majority of those townspeople voted for? Thats a huge loss for a small town. "Oh when will they ever learn? Oh when will they, ever learn" --Taken from the song "Where have all the Flowers Gone?
It's been 21 from the same battalion within a week. They are not all from the same town though quote: The Marines' deaths, along with two others slain July 28, brought the battalion's toll to 21 in a week. Eleven of those were part of the same Columbus-based unit, Lima Company, that lost four Marines in a single day in May.
Well, maybe if we just get more people to put those ribbon stickers on their cars we can fend off the frustration of the losses. .
Ha, true. I THINK I've noticed a few less of those recently but hard to tell. Too bad this wasn't a Cincinnati based batallion
I meant Columbus. I've noticed that this place is very very Christian, and all the locals have southern accents.. its just like Alabama.
While the mortality rate is low in comparison to other wars, we still have returnees who are damaged for life as well as undergoing serious mental trauma without treatment. That undercurrent in our society is growing as more finally get to come home. There are many returnees from the war who now speak out against it. Good for them, it's healthy.
I figure either you are against the war, you are too old to join up, or you are simply a pussy. Especially considering the armed forces need people, if you think this is all worth it and doing good for the country and/or world, you have no excuse.
Any person who is out there, supports this war, thinks its good, and doesn't go themselves...not you. Its a general statement...did people during world war 2 stay here talking about how they support it...not really, most everyone who could rushed out and joined.
About 8000 U.S. troops have been wounded in Iraq and 10,000 evacuated due to disease. The cost of the Vietnam war is estimated at $580 billion. We're more than half-way there with the Iraq occupation. Another two years should put us at the Vietnam mark financially. .
No, I don't protest it every chance I get, mostly because it does no good. Coming here laughing about the "small" number of casualties is pretty callous. I stick by what i said. The army is desperate for you, join up. If you want to spread democracy, do it yourself.
1,800 dead in Iraq. There was a time in the progress of all the wars listed when casualties were FAR FEWER. In Iraq, 1,800 have died.....SO FAR. The war in Iraq will never be over as long as we have an occupying force there. As long as we're there, they will keep killing us. They have been ridding themselves of foriegn invaders longer than anyone else; they're very good at it. The only way they will stop killing the invaders is for the invaders to leave.
If it keeps being mishandled the way it has been, the general public will retreat from it. The violent minority coupled together with an administration with bad planning and no endgame will cause the general public to retreat from it. The Congress isn't going to keep giving $80 billion dollar checks either. It's just the reality of the situation. I don't blame the troops that are trying to help. I saw an interview with a young troop who explained how his group was trying to rebuild things and said that those 'knuckleheads' (the insurgents) keep screwing things up. I love that term 'knuckleheads'. .
quote: the overall premise of the war itsself. the false weapons of mass destruction claims, or the false connection to 9-11? I'm being serious, what are the overall reasons?
are you talking to me, because thats not what I was asking Ok, the second one...so you think that the US should step in militarily into any country where human rights are being violated...that would be a long list. Do you think that invading a country and forcing change will really cause any permanent results without policing it forever?
