Hi, i'll be visiting the 'dam Aug 22-30 and i was wondering about the amount of free (or unsecured:X) wireless networks in Amsterdam. Here in canada they're very popular and over 50% of ppl don't use Encryption, so anyone can get on thier network for free. Can anyone give me some insight into this ? -Pat
We were there a few weeks ago, and didn't really notice any free-wireless... but then we weren't really looking for it either... hopefully someone that lives there can give you a better answer.
There ya go: http://www.wi-fihotspotlist.com/loc/1/2478391.php There is a big building in the middle of the Nieuwmarkt, it's a café/restaurant. If I'm correct you can get more info on the wifi spot there.. here is their website: http://www.indewaag.nl/
there are definitely free wireless internet hot spots in amsterdam. the problem with being somebody who lives here is that i never use them, got it at home, so i dunno. but i know for sure they do have them. i think one area is near the university of amsterdam buildings on roeterstraat (not far from weesperplein). wish i could tell you more ... love s g collins
In the UK, to get free Wi-Fi in cities, all you have to do is look for the symbol below. Once somebody has found an area they chalk this symbol on the wall or pavement for others to see and then they make use of the 'FREE' access. I have no idea if people in A'dam do this but thats how it's done here in certain hot spots. Best of luck.
When I lived in A'dam my neighbor had wireless & I got an excellent connection. Of course I had my own cable internet thru UPC as well, but when it went down I used the wireless.
I'm aware of warchalking but i've never seen any chalked areas here in toronto. Are there that many Unencrpyted wireless access points in A'dam, or do any coffee shops have offer wireless?
