i cant believe most of you guys dont know what an opossum is... hehe here is a pic of a baby thats a couple weeks old.. Check for injuries. Seriously injured babies should be taken to a veterinarian that day Treat dehydration. Give fluids by mouth using a 1 cc syringe, eye-dropper, or pet nurser. If you dont have an eye dropper FIND ONE! Goto the VET and get one... It is mandatory..Offer the fluids at room temperature hourly for up to 6 hours. Do not exceed 12 hours. Any of the following fluids may be used and can be purchased at the grocery or drug store : · Gatorade ( regular or clear flavors) · Pedialyte (clear) · Sugar/salt water: 3 teaspoons Sugar, 1 teaspoon salt dissolved in 1 quart very warm water. Cool the water to room temperature before offering it to the baby. 1 Part Esbilac Powder, 2 Parts Water half Part Multimilk or half Part Heavy Whipping Cream Give it a warm box or pet carrier. eyes closed infants and eyes open young that are in shock should be placed in a cardboard box or small/medium pet carrier with ravel-free bedding such as a few tee-shirts. Provide consistent source of warmth such as a heating pad on a low temperature setting. Place it half under the box or pet carrier. Contact your local Wildlife Rehabilitation Center ASAP... Good luck.
I bet SoaringEagle could give you some good first hand info about raising them. I feed some around here, but they're wild. The mama and her babies come onto the back porch at night,to eat cat food lol. So cute...
We got plenty of 'em around here, hehe. Buggers can get damn ornery too. Look like a huge grey dust mop gone bad! One was giving me attitude about being on my porch. I got the broom out and showed it what attitude really was!
hehe ya they are mean when i let them go it wont be near my house!!!lol they like chickens to mutch!!!
theres a young one that would get into our garbabge every night (well a girls gotta eat!) and then she figured out that we keep cat food on our porch so she's been coming onto the porch EVERY night around the same time and doesnt leave untill daybreak. the dogs have been going nuts and the cat is freaked~ ill knock on the window to try to get her to leave but she could give two shits about me and my pathetic knock....hhehe.
I didn't mind so much till the one focker growled and defied me. That was too far! Plus the sumbitch was huuuuge!!
this opossum is about 10 months old.. he has an injured tail.. eeps.. he is at an animal refuge recovering. they are cute as buttons, but they are wild animals and NOT pets.
well they are MEAN so you got yo be meaner! thats your porch! so say too it its mine then beat it withh the broom like it was your husbands drunken freind Hehehe! it is cool that your nice to the local wild life, but if it was me id run that thing right out of town!!! (they reely ligk chickens!)hehe
hey man, if you were a oppossum you'd be hanging out on porches trying to get a meal too i know they are "mean" when threatened, as any animal is...just defending themselves against harm. if i didnt have my animal babies to worry about (i worry that the little thing will attack my cat one of these days) then i wouldnt mind at all her coming on the porch to eat or whatever....but since i have my babies to protect im putting up some plastic "fencing" on the deck where she comes in from so hopefully after a while of not being able to get on the porch she'll just go back to tearing up my garbage
