The Hobbit was the first book I bought after HS. I read that and the Trilogy at least 13 times since. However to keep in topic I must say one word... PUG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You stole my answer! I had to read it at school, then fell in love with Lennie and his rabbit tending ways
I can't say that I was "forced" to read any book. I was anxious to read each and every book for school. One book that I read for school that comes to mind, that I absolutely loved was Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison (not to be confused with The Invisible Man by HG Wells) I think I am going to read it again soon in fact, it was just so amazing.
in grade 9 we had to read catcher in the rye it was the first book i actually couldnt put down, holden was the first character i was captivated by ill never forget how enthralled i was.
alot books that were mentioned were censored and not read in my school, because the principal didnt like em, i got a list of books that were censored somewhere so far as being forced to read and liked was "To kill a mocking bird", "Of mice and men", " Romeo and Juliet" "Animal farm" " Farenhiet 451" and alot Ray Bradbury short stories
I'm going with the outsiders, I had to read that in 8th grade and loved it haha and great expectations and a lot of poetry including most shakespeare
The Great Gatsby (Had to read it twice, enjoyed it both times) The Lovely Bones (Excellent book, very easy to read)
I read all the time as a kid, so making me read wasn't as issue. Although I didn't like being being told to read something, if I was reading something else. I was forced to read The Red Badge of Courage and I hated the first chapter so much, I got the Cliff Notes, which was about the only time I ever bought them. (I went to a Catholic University, and I did, however, get the Cliff Notes for the Old Testement. Do I still get into Heaven?)
Not to drag up an old thread, but seriously, there have been so many horrible books I've had to read. I'm an English major, so during the semester I have to read at least 1 or 2 books a week. Most of the books my professors make me read SUCK (they always seem like they'll be worthwhile, but NO), but there have been some nice surprises in there, such as:: Idoru & Neuromancer by William Gibson (even though I hate sci-fi) Memories of a Catholic Girlhood by Mary McCarthy Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett (?) The Confessions of Saint Augustine Silence by Shusaku Endo + a ton more I can't recall at the moment. xoxo cortnee
The Shell Seekers~ by Rosamunde Pilcher simply beautiful, i didnt want the book to end, if you haven' t read it do so!
The Great Gatsby-loved the writing To Kill A Mockingbird- it was decent The Oddesy(sp?)-its a classic! I was forced to read/write a paper on the Catcher in the Rye and even though I respect the fact Salinger went as far as he did and the controversy surrounding the book, I can't say I enjoyed it.
