i read that the brahmanas are the highest but it sounds to me that the ksatriayas have lots more fun being so i think if i had my choice, i would be one of those
No caste is better than the other, as far as shastras are concerned. It is merely an occupational classification. Each has its role in society and its part to play. The scholars, the leaders, the merchants and the laborers. These classes are found in all societies, the only difference is that we have a name for them.
Caste is dead However I was curious to know which caste I came from So I did some questioning and my uncle tells it would most likely be kshatriya because most of my family members are well built and tall(only be Indian standards ,we would still be considered short in America) and hence he thinks our ancestors were in the Army Not sure though
I really dig this thread..... I just keep thinking that if Ghandi came back to life and fasted again for peace,.... Our president would run to his side with a cheeseburger. Forgive this divergence and caste me out. digger
yes, these divisions exist in other societies but in india one is bound to the caste one is born into but elsewhere, one may choose one's occupation
No one is any longer bound to , in the past they might have been Yes,in some pockets of the country where ignorence and illiteracy are the prime companians of the people it is enforced in bizzare, mutated forms
ha, i think any person would pick to be a brahmana- knowledgeable, closer to God and salvation. Ofcourse, people who still want to enjoy the Raja mentality pick to be kshatriyas... (watch out or some one might smack you on the head)
But you see jedi, it isnt as easy as that. To be a true brahmana requires great learning, careful and unfailing performance of daily rituals, abstinence and various other lfiestyle choices that most would hesitate to take on. A kshatriya's duty is also very hard to take, for the true kshatriya has to be a great and courageous warrior and has to ensure that every single person in the land is provided for. A vaishya's life is easier, the businessman, this is what most of us are, really. But even here, it has to be ethical business practice. A shudra's life is of service. In some ways it is higher than all the rest, the greatest scope for karma yoga. But never forget, the parama dharma for ALL jivas is to find union with god. Everything else is unimportant if you achieve that.
"In some ways it is higher than all the rest, the greatest scope for karma yoga. " You are absolutely right, but i think we are a little of everything at different times... oh the inconstant mind...
