 my friend just came round to tell me her elderly father was dying of prostate cancer and was in great pain .he is refusing to go toa hospice or hospital unless he can excercise what he thinks is his right to euthenasia.the hospital are refusing to even consider it but have gauranteed him pain free last few weeks.were do you all stand on this one .......i say that if it is 100%that you only have a few weeks left and are in immeasurable pain then you shoulfd be allowed to decide for your self or have it written so your family know what to do.people become very attached to thier dogs and live with them for years and years but we wouldent sit and watch them suffer week after week!!i am feeling confused because i can see points from botyh angles........i can honestly say that if it cae to my life i would definatly want the right to decide.......

i totally agree with it, i think people should have the right to choose when they die, i dont think its a bad thing i think it would be better to have family around u and they say goodbye before u go rather than no one. BUT when my aunt was alive and in pain she said one day she wants it but the next day she didnt!!!! so in that way you have to be careful, but yes i agree with it 100 %

    I'm for it.

After all people do that for animals, and they have even less capability to express their consent.

im for it 100%. you can kill by inflictions or deprevations. by taking someone off life support they are killing by deprivation. saying that euthenasia is wrong but taking someone off life support is okay is like saying that holding a baby underwater untill it drowns is bad but its okay if it falls in and cant swim and you dont help it. it should be the persons choise how they want to go.

That is a sticky situation. I had a grandfather who was practically a vegetable for a month, and before he became too unconscious to rationalize he mentioned several times that he seriously considered death. However miraculously (sp.) he fully recovered (stroke they think) and had at least five good years left. So I think we all would have regretted euthanizing him.

The problem is that many people who are "close" to death are unable to speak or otherwise rationalize or communicate their wishes for euthanasia. That is why I think a living will is important. It tells your family of your wishes in specific situations and allows them to make their best decision when they may not be able to make it for themselves.

Recently, my mother made out a living will as recommended by her doctors. It was very difficult to discuss at first, but is good to know her wishes in the event that her health deteriorates and she becomes incompetent for these decisions. There is even a password associated with the act of euthanasia that select family members are given. Needless to say it would be very, very difficult to make that decision. :(

Euthenasia is pretty tricky when it's a person who has become a vegetable and theres no will, but when they can clearly articulate their wishes, it seems obvious. You shouldn't let a person linger in agony if they wish to die.

A persons life is always in there own hands, and I've never felt anything like what I assume a tumor rotting you to the core feels like, I could only imagine that they would understand the finality of their desicion.

I am against it however i agree with the fact that you should always have overall choice in your own life. But i think that life is a miraculous thing that should not be waisted because sooooooooooo many people do not have the choice to live or die.So those of us who are living have almost the duty to stay that way before fate decides for us to go.However i say this as someone who has never been asked to end someones life for them.

i think that if you want to end your own life you should be allowed to do so. i think that it is wrong that gov't can control you right to end your own life. its the same thing with suicide if you can get arrested for attempted murder if you don't succeed in killing yourself, usually they send you to a mental hospital but still....

I think I am against it, and that is a personal choice. Personally, (and I say this having never known serious disease) I think I'd fight to the last shread of my being. The thought of putting my cat "to sleep" (what a horrible, horrible misleading phrase) chills me to the bone. That's my baby, that's my "son" and I would rather sacrifice myself than do something like that to him/her.

At the same time, though, I agree that if it is what you desire, it should be your right to choose. People choose their lives all the time -- their careers, their partners, their medical attention, their faith, their politics, their views... why should they not have the choice to end their life?

I myself am far too in love with this world and my life to let it go without a god-damned crusade. But that's just my humble two pennies.

    Bright Blessings!

I also beleive you should be able to choose, i would not like to be a vegetable lying in a hospital, whittling away just for them to eventually take me off and starve to death. A living will is a very good thing to have and make sure your wishes are known your family. the only problem with that is people would probably find a way to override your wishes, like some do concerning organ donation and sometimes last wishes concerning your remains. Once when i was in school, we took a trip to a funeral home and a motrician was telling a story about a guy that loved to hunt, and when he died, his will stated that he wanted his family to go hunting using bullets filled with his ashes to shoot the prey. One of his sons refused his last wishes and alas, they could not be carried out. Im not sure what ended up happening to the body, but i bet he was pissed (or would have been)!!

anyway, i think if you are in your right mind and are sincere in your wish to uthanasia, it should be respected.

I totally believe in euthanasia. No one should ever have to live in pain or suffering. As you say we wouldn't think twice about putting a pet down if it was suffering, so why would we let someone we love suffer. We have so many elderly people just laying in hospitals waiting to die..how undignified this must be for them. I call this EXISTING not living. You must ask yourself if the person laying in that bed would want to exist like this or go on to a better place (what ever their vision of that place would be). I'm so sure many of them would choose the latter. I know we should never give up hope but nor should we be selfish and make this person stay in this world . I know its a tough call but I have been there and had to overlook my needs and let my Mother go. She deserved this dignity instead of just existing. Good luck with whatever you decide but please make your decision based on what they would want and not what you want. Peace and love go with you.

I've already told Mrs. Goth if I ever become a vegetable or a quadriplegic pull the plug.

If/when I can no longer ride due to age or injury, I will say my goodbyes to all, and then go to the shooting range, rent a large gauge shotgun, and recapture the magic of Kurt Cobain.

Life isn't converting O2 to CO2 it's being able to do stuff.

I'm for it, let people do what they want to themselves.

I think it'd be most fun to end your suffering by jumping off a tall tall cliff.

If it was someone I care about who wanted to die I'd let them go in peace instead of only after a great deal of pain, even though I'd probably have a very hard time with it. I know that I'd rather go 'swiftly and with style' than having to crawl to my death through a valley of thorns... you'll die in the end anyway.

    Hahaha :D

I'm for it in the idea that everyone should be able to have complete control over their lives; but, I'm against it with the knowledge that people aren't in complete control of their lives... I would suffer, personally.

if we truly lived in a free country, we'd have the freedom of death. especially when you would have been dead a long time ago, if some asshole doctor hadn't hooked you up to some machine to live the rest of your life in misery, while draining your pockets into the hospital
