from Patricia Blagojevich, First Lady of Illinois.
    Thought it was really cool!

    Dear Illinois Mother:

Congratulations on the new addition to your family. As a mother of two young daughters, I know how special this time can be, and want to take a moment to make sure you know about a new state law that directly affects you.

The new law makes it illegal to prohibit women from breastfeeding in public places. It is every woman's right to breastfeed her child in any place, public or private.

Please help spread the word to all mothers that prohibiting them from breastfeeding in public places is not only wrong, it is now illegal. Again, congratulations.

    Sincerely,
    Patricia Blagojevich
    First Lady

How awesome is that. What a great way to spread the word. I'm sure many new moms may not know about this new law.

You CAN breastfeed in public. However, specific laws makes it more noticable to those who somehow think you can't. These law just clarify an act that really never was illegal, yet even some "law enforcement" types think is. ("Hey, my wife never did that.....You shouldn't either.") This new law, passed by our cool Gov. with help from his wife, makes it illegal to harrass womyn who are BF in public. No one can make you leave a place where you and your baby can legally be. There are legal penalties for now telling a womyn who is breastfeeding "You can't do that here." or "You are embarressing some of our other patrons." Or even "You have to go to the toilet to do that." Or even "Put a blanket over yourself or something." (It has been obove 90 for, like 12 straight weeks here. WFT wants to put a blanket on? My kids (the older two, I never bothered with a cover up with the others.) would always pull it off anyway. But it seems like people always try to tell BF mothers to do this silly thing.

    Go Patricia Blagojevich.
She's nursing one of her and Rod's children right now.

Yay for you, Squidney. Keep that letter in a good place. I'd have it framed.

My friends have all kinds of these cozmo mags and girls a re totaly nude in there but I if one of them ever has a child heaven forbid she nurses in public. Sorry ...ranting...

    Amen to that :)

*does happy dance for you* :)
    That's so awesome.

They're pushing for something similar in the UK. It's pretty much the same as Maggie mentioned.
Not prohibited or anything, it's just you get 'strongly advised' to shut yourself away. For fear of potentially offending other people. Despite the fact that about 80% of people (according to a survey) don't give a rats ass and just look away.

Maybe if there wasn't such a stupid taboo about it then mothers would be more inclined to nurse. Which is good for all concerned.
