I know people who have sandals like those. they rock. unfortunalty i dont know how to make a pair of them. I wish i did cause then id have a pair. but good luck finding someone that does.
I have a book that has directions... I am to lazy to get up right now and look for it (sorry im really sore and tired) but its from the 60's and its something like 'rope crafts'

Okay I got the book out Everyone Listen up.... Unfortunatly my scanner is not hooked up so I must type all of the directions... So their are gonna be lots of spelling mistakes .. sorry Materials: 4 lengths of Tropical Fiber, all the same color or 2 contrasting colors, each length about 250 inches for a pair of size 6 Sandles 1 Pair inner soles Large Needle amnd Linen Thread Directions: For Each sandle use 2 of the 250" Lengths. Tie both lengths together at their centers with a piece of string and, with the same string, attach them to a steady object. The two lengths form four strands, each about 125 inches. Braid by method of four strand braiding (described elsewhere in book... Four Strand Braiding - Crappy diagram |1| |2| |3| |4| - each number is a string Bring outer left strand, (No. 1), over Both No. 2 and No. 3, So that No. 1 is next to no. 4. Then Bring the outer right strand (no. 4) over no. 1, so that No. 4 is next to number 3. To Continue: Bring the outer left strand over both the strands at its right and the next strand also; then bring the outer right strand over one strand at its left. This will look like regular 3 strand braiding except that the left edge will be thicker than the right.... okay back to sandle directions) Make the braiding firm but do not pull it too tight. Continue for the entire length od the strands, making a braid about 100 inches long. The braid is then to be sewed to the inner sole. The inner sole should be firm but of material soft enought to sew through and it should be about one-half inch narrower than the width desired for the sandal. Sew the braid first to the bottom of the sole. Start at the instep and sew the braid on flat around the edge, allowing it to project a little (about the thickness of one strand) beyond the edge. Sew through the sole, Keep the stitches in line with the strands, so that thay will sink in and be concealed. When you have sewed once around the sole and are to cross over the end with which you started, open the ender strands as flat as possible so that they ill not form a bulky lump as you sew the braid over them. Then Continue sewing on the braid, Without cutting it, making the second row next to the outside row and very close to it, and so on to the center of the sole. At the center you may have to pull the braid to make it thinner or spread it, as the case may be, to fill the remaining space. then cut off the braid, leaving just enoughof an end so that it can be worked under the preceding row of braiding. You will have to cut one or two stitches of the preceding row. Spread the ends of the braid, Insert them under the other braid, and sew them down as flat as possible. Turn the sandal over and sew the braid on the top in the same way. For straps, Cut two strips of the braid of the desired length. IOne end od each strap is inserted at the side of the heel, the strap is carried around the heel and then across the sandal to a point about half way between the tip of the sandal and the instep, where the other end is inserted. the two straps cross at the back of the sandal and form a little hold for the heel. The two straps may, if preffered, be crossed over each other at the front of the sandal, without being carried around the heel. When you have decided on the points where yuo wish to insert the ends of the straps, cut one or two stitches in the last row of braiding at these points, spread the ends of the straps flat insert them in the openings you have made for them, and sew them in securly. Sew the straps tgether at the point where they cross. Then sew all around the edge of the sandal to close the braid of the top and bottom securely together.... Wow that was alot of typing... They dont look exactly like the ones you posted but im sure you can figure out how to alter them...
their pretty easy to make, check out the pair ive made. They smell like roadkill mixed with wet dog but I LOVE IT

i tried to crochet a pair of sandals but they were a pain and turned out all funny. those ones look alot easier. i want some, the sandals i have right now are starting to cut into the sides of my feet.
