i wasn't sure which forum to post this in; but i figure car living is sort of outdoors, eh?...

for people who spend/have spent a lot of time on the road, i was just wondering what you do about insurance... i'm used to living hand to mouth but soon am thinking on getting a car for the first time and i really don't know anything about it... is it really necessary? is it like hundred or thousands a year for an old car? and does it cost more if you're going to be travelling all around, since it's by state? any info at all would be cool...
    peace.

Car insurance is required in all states, it is not legal to drive a car without it, although many do and if you are in an accident you will lose your liscense and car. The rate depends on many things, type of car, how much insurance, your past driving record, sex, where you live. To get away the cheapest is to only carry the state minimum which basically protects the other car in case you are in an accident. If you drive an older car with no insurance on your car and only carry it on the other driver, it will be cheaper. I'm paying about $1000 a year, but that is for 2 drivers, two vehicles and good driving record. My son was paying about $3000 a year, but that is male, young driver, full coverage, new car. If you get a policy on your parents policy it may be cheaper than on your own. Just call and ask some insurance company, but at least have an idea on what kind of vehicle you will have.

car insurance is not required in all states. in new hampshire you dont need it. but everywhere else... yeah. depending on your driving record, car, etc, that is how insurance agencies judge your quote. i've been with geico for quite sometime now and they have deducted quite a bit of money off my bill because i've been with them for so long. i found geico to be my best best... others have not... shop around! its a bitch, but thats how you find your best deals! good luck
