ok i am a hardcore vegetarian, only eggs and milkfor me, and im doing for the animals and for health reasons i mean come on no meat is soooo good for u, but i like ice cream and all that is that defeating the purpose of trying to be healthy by cutting out meat? dont take me wrong i will NEVER go back to eating meat, but, i would like to stop eating sweets to, my parents are going hardcore hippy and are going TOTALLY organci which im soo happy about that will cut out sweets in the house, but still do u think it kinda defeats the purpose, even though i am stopping, i would like to hearur thoughts on it! If you're going to be having ice cream anyway, you're best off switching to soy ice cream or sorbet. You don't have to declare yourself a "vegan", but just making such changes will be better for your heart. Remember that animal products- not just meat- but dairy and eggs contain saturated fat and cholesterol. Fat that is in plant products- excluding coconut/palm oils- are unsaturated, and will not clog your arteries.

I couldn't say it's "defeating the purpose" because being vegetarian is healthier than being omni for the most part. But if you're eating ice cream everyday- compared to an omni that ate meat/ice cream once a week, then I guess that would be worse off. It's common that a lot of people who are vegetarian overload on dairy, which can make them feel sluggish. This is why many people who have been vegetarian return to omnivorism because they claim they didn't feel healthy. This healthiest diet (no matter you're omni, veg, or vegan) is based on lots of fruits, veggies, and whole grains.

I love ice cream as well, but since I'm vegan, I eat Tofutti. It's seriously so goddamn good, better than any dairy ice cream I've ever had, and I'm not saying that out of bias. Skip the Soy Delicious and Rice Dream brands, their vegan ice creams taste bad.

All in all, eating lots of dairy is in no way good for you. If you were a baby cow, sure! But you're a human woman, and if you choose to consume cow's breastmilk, do so in moderation... and at your own risk.

If you want in depth nutrition info, go to the Physicans' Committee for Responsible Medicine, http://www.pcrm.org
or, more info about dairy: www.milksucks.com

You'll just have to look into ways to get your 'sugar fix' healthfully, there are many sweet fruits and creations that you can eat that will satisfy you you'd just have to find it. Also yeah soy and rice ice creams are very good and actually my bf likes rice dream and I like soy delicious so you'll have to see what you like best.

Can you point me to any references for you statement that a veggie diet is healthier? Is it based on hearsay, or can you show me scientific studies?

I could point you to scientific studies but I'm rather lazy, it's not hard to find though.

I would love that my parents go all organic. but I don't really have the hippy background that u have for family. luckily I don't have to deal with them and havn't had to for a long time. Just be careful with those eggs. They peutrify just like meat and will eventually cause disorders and disease. Peutrifying is a rotting and not good for your insides obviously. milk and plants do not do that.
