This isn't about being vegetarian, but I figure I'd stick it here because it regards issues most veggies/vegans would be concerned about. It really sickens me how poorly someone can treat their own pets... and how cruel they can be towards them as well. Yesterday I got a phone call from my boyfriend and he was really upset... I asked him what was going on, and when he finally caught his breath, he explained, "There is a small kitten in my yard... His tail is still intact but it has no fur or skin anymore... What should I do?!" I told him I would be right over-- When I arrived, it was clear to me that either some cruel asshole, or some mean little kid had lighted the kitten's tail on fire... the end of it was crisp and black and the rest looked very blistered-- all the fur was perfectly shaped off right up to his butt. It sent my stomach up to my throat. I said "We definitely need to call the humane society. This cat is obviously been stray for a while and we cannot take our chances with touching him and what not." RIGHT AFTER I say that his stupid sister [not younger, she is 21 years old mind you] runs for the cat and scoops him up. Whatever, it's her choice if she wants to take that chance... Anyway, she argues "I don't want to take it to the humane society!!! What if they put him down?!!!" I say, "if you won't call I WILL. It is called the HUMANE society for a reason." So I walk in the house to get the phone and when I come out his sister is rambling on about... "If they don't have to put him down, I am going to probably adopt him... I dont care if I have the money or not...blah blah blah" I stopped her and said..."Where do you plan on living with this cat...where do you plan on keeping him and taking care of him?" She abruptly answers, "My boyfriend's house!" At that moment I wanted to hit something. I was really angry--- Her boyfriend has 9 cats, 3 dogs, and a ferret. Only two of the cats live under clean, healthy conditions...the rest either live in the basement which is covered in cat feces... or out in the shed where they are only let out once in a while with a rope tied around their neck so they don't "run away"--- None of them have shots, or any type of clinical attention except the two that live upstairs. The two other dogs are locked up in tiny pet carriers all day, and only get to emerge to go to the bathroom for a minute, and eat later on. I was truly disgusted when I saw that...and then she is dumb enough to want to "raise" a cat over there. I told her this too, but ...she's extremely naive and ignorant when it comes to things like this...especially when she wants something. It really angers me when people will basically stock pile pets as if its some sort of collection when they can not afford to have them. Aside from that she works full time, and only stays with her boyfriend for a few hours each week night, and on the weekends... if you have a kitten they need MUCH more TLC than what she could possibly give to him. Anyway--- we DID bring him to the humane society and they are checking him out today --- I actually am crossing my fingers that they don't allow him to be adopted by her. It makes me so angry Going along with how the kitten was obviously mistreated by some anonymous human... I have heard SO many horror stories to that effect that truly disgust me and make me angry with such humans. For one, my boyfriend has an asshole friend who APPARENTLY put both a kitten and a fucking hampster in a microwave until they seriously exploded. If I would have been around when that happened, I would have definitely called the police on him --- I'm sorry but that is just UNCALLED FOR, AND SERIOUSLY FUCKED UP AND CRUEL. After I told my friend about that incident he had explained to me-- she was telling me about how someone we used to go to school with put her OWN cat in a microwave--- HOW CAN PEOPLE BE SO LITERALLY FUCKED AND CRUEL
That is completely sickening. I truly don't understand how people think torturing another living creature is fun or amusing. If I was you, I would do everything in my power to stop her from being able to adopt the kitten, if she's okay, and I would also report her boyfriend. Animals abuse is against the law. If you insist upon having a pet, you must take care of it. Is it at all possible for you to take care of the kitty? If not, maybe you know somebody who would be willing to provide it with a safe and loving home. Either way, keep it away from your boyfriend's sister and her boyfriend. The poor kitty has been through enough already as it is. I hope everything works out.
i know, the stories i hear (which are only a minute fraction of the whole problem) are enough to literally make me throw up....and send me into tears. its practically UNBELIEVABLE what some people do.....i mean, seriously, i cant wrap my head around it. were you the one who brought the kitten to the HS? if i were you i'd give them a call to check up on the kitten and when doing so let someone over there know about that girl's situation and that you believe it is in the best interest of the cat NOT to be adopted out to her. Most HS do extensive interviews and such, but i guess there are some that dont at all. when i adopted lily last month all i did was say "id like to take her" (i expected to be interviewed or something) and she said "55 bucks" i paid and that was that. i was like "thats it?!" right on for helping out the kitty, its always nice to be in the right place at the right time for a rescue. hope she pulls thru alright~
hearing about that poor kitten makes me want to cry but also makes me want to do horrible violent twisted things to the people that hurt and kill animals for their entertainment!!! these people are sick to get enjoyment out of it and should all die anyway I'm done with my rant! I'm so happy you and your boyfriend called the HS, Please keep us updated on the kitten, I hope it's okay! and also I hope your bf's sister doesn't adopt it, although she may mean well, sometimes are hearts are just bigger then our homes! I know I'd adopt every animal if I could but it wouldn't be fair for them all to have to live in a tiny apartment! hehe not that this is any of my business, but I was just curious if your boyfriend is still friends with the guy that cooked the kitten and hamster?? I can't see why anyone would be friends with someone after they would do that, that guy must truly be a horrible person!
I would, and I do have the time, money and space for the kitty but I still live with my dad, and I don't think he would like it. And my cat is a spoiled brat and hates other cats around, he wants all the attention
they DO interview here. Unfortunately me, my boyfriend, HIS SISTER and her sister's friend all went to the HS and his sister is the one who checked the kitty in ...because she wants him ...and she told the receptionist right up front "if he is doing okay, Id like to adopt him afterwards..." I probably will call and inform them of the unstable conditions...but definitely anonymously....dont need any family drama!
no hes not, and my mistake they never really were, just more of acquaintances...friends of friends sort of situation. he was NEVER close to him and Im thankful for that, because if I ever saw this guy...drama would ignite... you can bet on that. lol
OMG I am really disturbed!!!!! People can be SO sick. Actually, this is usually how serial killers start out, by hurting animals. Jeffery Dahmer, Charles Manson, etc..... all animal hurters. Ok- and about those people who keep dogs in cages all day: It is important that you do something! No one else is going to do it (most likely). Call the Humane Society, ASPCA, or any animal welfare workers ASAP, report the incident, and if they don't get the animals, then take them yourself. I'm not trying to sound bossy here-- I just really want to help you out with this situation, it is terrible! Animals are not born to live in cages - whether it be in a farm factory, a circus, or someone's basement. These things upset me so much...
AGREED!!!!! whenever i hear about an animal being kept in a crate/cage i get so upset. i have a no cages policy in my home.....i hate them.
Im going to--- Im just a bit nervous if they find out IIIII said something --then my fiancees whole family will hate me...>.< But yeah, I cant just sit back and do nothing about it either -so Ill let you know how it ends up ....Cross your fingers that no one kills me in the process!
By the way i did a report on animal cruelty in 7th grade... and I included that tid bit about Jefferey Dahmer and such as well... Its really sick and twisted--- I dont understand how people can just...DO that sort of stuff.

OK..UPDATE: The kitty is getting his tail amputated, but aside from that hes going to be okay... his sister is going to adopt the kitten, BUT he's going to live at their parents' house.... which makes me extremely RELIEVED. In addition, that means I get to play with the kitty everyday!!!
Are you serious? That kinda thing gives me the red mist. I'm not sure I'd be able to restrain myself long enough to call the police.
