Seriously, for that "wardrobe malfunction" crap that she pulled at the superbowl, she deserves to be shot. Now don't get me wrong...I'm not a prude who takes offense at that sort of thing...in fact, anyone who took serious offense at that needs a life. It was just a boob, not the end of the world. It isn't the boob that pisses me off, it's the fact that the government has used her and Justin's little stunt as an excuse to launch the biggest campaign/witch hunt against free speech/dissent ever. I'm sure most of you know about the recent workings of the FCC. In a nutshell, this 5 person committee has the sole authority to shut down any radio/television programming that they disapprove of. This is a far cry from the previous set of regulations that would carry fines for violations of codes that were CLEARLY STATED and known (the F word and such). But now, thanks to various legislation in the name of "morality", anything that they deem "indecent" is a violation that can result in a fine of up to $500,000 PER INSTANCE. Just like that. And without there even being a "big list of don't do's". So one 5 minute segment on, let's say, the Mancow show, that has 4 "cases of indecency" can result in a $2 Million dollar fine. Say bye bye to the Mancow show. And just like that, they can shut up any voice of dissent without justification. This isn't so much about them not being able to talk about boobs anymore as it is that any overlying political message that the person in question (again, Mancow Muller is a good example) may be trying to get across can be stomped down for good. Pretty soon all you're going to hear and see are Rush Limbaugh clones all spouting messages of mindless compliance and "Goodspeak". George Orwell was 20 years off.
I honestly think she planned it to take some of the heat off of Michael, so that everyone's eyes would be on her for a while, and not her brother's nasty ass child molesting ways. But that's just me, I'm all about conspiracy theories... *grin*
i think she put together a rather tacky act to get some more attention. i think planning to have someone rip off part of your shirt during a family hour entertainment is pretty obnoxious. it's not the breast that offends me, it's the physical assualt aspect being shown to young'uns in a sexually attractive way when they're not mature enough to even comprehend consent.
i think it is so stupid that the media and the fcc and everybody are making such a big deal bout it...it was a nipple for less than a second...so what!!!...deal with it!!!
We're going back to the days where Elvis had to be shot from the waist up on the Ed Sullivan Show, because of his pelvic dance.
Am I the only one who thought it odd that this whole incident happened only a few weeks before her new album came out? "Wardrobe malfunction" my ass, it was all a publicity stunt. She's a washed up has-been singer who wanted some attention, so she decided to show off a nipple during the Super Bowl.
This thing has been so blown outta porportion it isn't even funny anymore. But I'm sure conservatives love this controversy because they can focus on this instead of America's real problems. One thing I also wonder, why hasn't Justin Timberlake caught as much shit as Janet Jackson?
didn't she wear a star on her nipple? that would mean that she knew wat was going to happen. you don't clamp something like that, that big on your nipple everyday without a purpose for it. so while she goes oh i didn't kno. the fact that justin effortlessly pulled apart a latex dom outfit with out moving janet seems pretty easy to spot the obvious. which is they both knew. but look like idiiots cause they denie knowledge. i hope they don't introduce that fcc crap to canada. i swear if you yanks fuck up tv for me...
I think it's crazy how at any time you can turn on your TV and find someone being shot and that's perfectly alright with the general public but if a nipple is on TV for a few seconds then the whole country acts as if Janet Jackson dropped an A-bomb on a kitten. Victorian sexual repression, anyone?
yea, fuck the FCC!!! whatchu gonna do now, charge me $500,000 for expressing my right of freedom of speech? lol fuck em
<<Julie is rolling on the floor, laughing>> Yeah, everyone is making a big huge deal about nothing. It's a breast. Not a mutilated Arab... (yeah, bad joke, I know).
oh thats harsh, but a very good point. why can news stations show that woman who has the prisoner on a dog chain over and over again, but then janet gets all this shit for showing a boob. she didnt even show her nipple! she had jewelry on if you looked really hard... so whats worse nudity or the brutal beating of other people?
I don't see why there is anything wrong with it. It IS Janet Jackson and she IS known for being sexual. They should've told her she couldn't do anything THAT extreme onstage. Yes, I do agree with what everyone is saying --- it probably was a publicity stunt both for her album and to take some of the press off of her brother (you have to look out for your family :-D) I dont see why everyone made a big deal out of it in the first place, it's just a boob! Everyone is going to see one of them in thier lifetime. And it's not like you saw much of it, she had that big star on it and the camera's cut away really fast --- well, I guess it would've been hard for them to get rid of people staring who was actually there, but I think they cut the lights so they couldn't see that much? Cause when they pulled away it seemed PRETTY DARK. I do think it was blown way out of porportion, I guess the NFL hasn't taken a listen to 'The Velvet Rope,' eh?
I hate the FCC, I'd love to see it be done away with (I hate virtually all censorship, I would only try to bar the eyes of the pre-adolescent from explicit violent and sexual material). I don't really place the blame on Janet, stupid stunt though it was (though I do kinda like the mental image of Joe Super-Social-Conservative's head exploding when seeing it). Women have breasts, big friggin' deal, ya know... America needs to get over its puritanical repulsion to nudity. I don't even see why it should be wrong for children to see it, it's just natural. It's only "wrong" because so many uptight people attach a negative stigma to the human body.
I agree with everyone who said it really wasn't a big deal, and people overreacted far too much, the only thing is, most people aren't as free minded as most of us here. Perhaps they don't see the body as one of the purest, more natural things, but something that needs censorship. And I find that a little sad
Well the main point of this post wasn't a debate as to wheter or not what she did was wrong, it was me venting some steam about how the FCC totally used the incident to justify all these new censorship laws...THAT needs to change. Down with the FCC!
Why is Janet Jackson a bitch? You don't even know her... and if it's about the way she dresses, her music or the incident with her boob (that wasn't even that shocking) than I can only say that we all are stupid. We all have our own ways of expressing ourselves, each of us has his own favorite music/food/fashion/... and Janet Jackson is in no way different. Where's the charity people?
